When I did it, the first couple days for me were spent in-store. No deliveries at all. We had to learn how to do the in-store stuff before we could go out. Once that happened, we got sent out on our own. Not really all that much you have to learn about delivering.

That's basically what we would do with new hires, and give them a delivery here and there when it was slow.

        Oh okay. Not bad then.

What kind of in-store stuff do they make you do?

Bad tippers where you live huh? I always tip $4 or $5 for an order if I order more than a single pizza. Otherwise I do $2.50.

It seems like a really good part time job, but I don't think I'm good enough with directions too do it. If your delivering all over town how do you know where all the side streets are?

I'm good with directions, and I believe the delivery area isn't that large. I know there's another Papa John's about 8-10 miles away from this one.

The bulk of deliveries end up being repeat customers anyway. Once you deliver someplace the first time it's cake from then on out.

Most (read all) stores have a map of the delivery area that shows you all the side streets.

Re: Working At A Pizza Place

Well, I started last night. First 45 minutes, I was reading a handbook. Then I had to start answering the phones. That was miserable. It couldn't have gone any worse. Then I rode around with a guy for three deliveries to see how things went. Lastly, they put me out on the road.

I made $18 in tips/delivery charge on only four deliveries.

My pay is $6/hour + $1.35 per delivery + tips. Not too shabby.

I gotta work today from 4-8 and tomorrow from 4-8. Should get some decent money since it should be mega busy.

I saw your post below, but let's be honest here, what kind of knowledge needs to be transferred in delivering a pizza?

Here's the pizza. Here's the address. Here's the cost, printed out for you. Go.

                      What else is involved?!!?

What do you do if someone pulls a gun on you? What do you do if someone takes the pizza and doesn't pay? What do you do if someone tells you something is wrong and they want it for free? And so on.....

Gun: Let them have their pizza and get the **** outta there. Too many crazy people kill pizza delivery people.

No payment: I thought this was why delivery people ALWAYS get the money from you before they hand you the pizza?

Wrong: What's the company policy on this? If something is wrong does it come out of your own pocket? If so I would recommend giving them coupons for a free or discounted pizza on a future order.

Better. I made 9 deliveries in about 4 and a half hours.

                            Tips went as so:
                            $2.44
                            $2.00
                            $3.09
                            $2.00
                            $2.00
                            $5.00
                            $4.00
$0.00 (yes, I got no tip. Damn 15 year old girls)
$5.00 (this order had 6 pizzas + two 2 liter Cokes)

                            I think I took home $35 with tip/delivery pay.

I've never once in my entire life handed money to the pizza guy before getting the pizza. I also never received money before handing the pizza over when I worked as a drive.
