Re: Parenting Help - Fussy Eater
Does he have a few teeth yet? At 10 months, you probably could start him on some soft solids, such as bread, corn, green vegetables, very small pieces of chicken, etc. For breakfast, maybe small pieces of cinnamon toast, toast with jelly, scrambled eggs, very small pieces of banana, etc.
Take care,

Re: Parenting Help - Fussy Eater
I try to trick him by putting his milk bottle by his mouth and when he opens it I give him some cereal. My mom told me that's the worst thing I could do. He's not eating it for a reason, don't force him. I dunno, hopefully it's just a phase. My friend's 3 year old is a fussy eater but I didn't expect a 10 month old to be fussy this early.
Kids will eat when they're hungry. Just try to regulate it to avoid the "nibbler" syndrome, where kids think they can eat at any time.
All three of my kids went through fussy eating periods, and they're fine. It happens.
Take care,

Re: Parenting Help - Fussy Eater
Have you tried mixing the fruits and vegetables with the cereal?
My daughter is 6 months and is kind of going through the same phase. After experiencing all of these new tastes, she has little interest in eating plain old flavorless cereal.Comment

Re: Parenting Help - Fussy Eater
As long as he's drinking his bottle and getting the nutrients from that, he'll be fine (especially if he's eating during the day).
I have had 3 boys and my youngest is also 10 months. What I do is give him his bottle in the morning and wait about 45 mins to an hour to give him his solids (banana, yogurt or apple sauce). I mix the cereal in whatever I'm giving him.
The most important thing for him is to get the nutrients from his milk. If he's eating solids during lunch and dinner and a little fussy in the morning, he's fine. I don't think he's challenging you. Kids aren't dumb. If he doesn't want it, he doesn't want it. Now, if he throws a tantrum, that's another story.
Also, try giving him some Cheerios on his plate to play with and put in his mouth. I also agree with the poster who suggested giving him a spoon to mess with. He's right at the age where he begins to learn how to use his hands. It can get messy, but a little at a time can keep it from becoming a huge mess.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Parenting Help - Fussy Eater
By 10 months my son wouldn't eat cereal either. He started eating soft foods pretty early, and took off from there. Like PK said, might want to try some scrambled eggs, grits, fruits and see how he takes it.
I'll tell ya, it doesn't get any easier either. My son eats pretty well, but my daughter is picky as can be. After seeing her brother eat something, she'll eventually try it, and most of the time like it.Comment

Re: Parenting Help - Fussy Eater
Thanks for all your comments guys! What we did this morning was give him a spoon to play with. I guided him to his cereal bowl and stirred his spoon into it and let him discover it himself. He started to put the cereal in his mouth himself but wasn't impressed.
We have come to the conclusion he is off cereal. And this is not plain cereal. We have umpteen boxes of flavoured cereals. I guess he doesn't like the texture anymore.
We then mashed some bananas with a little bit of his breast milk and tried again. He loved it!
Last night he ate little pieces of mashed potato and mashed up carrots and peas. He didn't like corn kernals though. He gagged and threw up a little bit. We'll hold off on that for a while.
We also picked up these snack puffs that melt in your mouth. I threw some on his table and let him pick and grab at those.
According to all your guy's comments my wife and I have nothing to worry about. He gets breast milk which is the best thing for him. He drinks plenty of that. Hopefully he'll start to like people food now.
We are going to test out scrambled eggs tonight. He has two top teeth and 2 bottom teeth. Is it too early for Cheerios?Comment
