Ok...so I am going to watch the local news and well see how loving they are. Here we go...

-Terror Training and terrorists attacking American soon
    -Shooting at Church
    -Mall Shooting in Ohio
-2 Dead in Car Crash in Vegas
-1 Dead in Motorcycle Crash in Vegas
-House Foreclosures - NV is close to top (show lots of sad faces and interview someone who lost their house)

Well those were the top stories before the first commercial break. Such holiday cheer.
    - The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.

To actually see first hand what happened and to watch later what the media reports though does often give me a good chuckle. If only we could all be so irresponsible in our jobs and get away with it.

Good post and this is coming from a cop. I've personally always wondered americas infactuation with death and negativity. As for the media, I even asked my teacher when I was young why top stories of every form of media is always something negative. Death, accidents, rape and drugs are top stories while the good, wholesome feelgood stories are usually reserved for the last 10 minutes of any news broadcast. I often think that if the roles were reversed and a story of a ten year old boy rescuing his own mother from a burning building would bring good vibes, it will also be forgotten by the time the story finishes airing. Contraversy is the main selling point for our rotten little minds because we were raised in fear of these things happening to us so we seem so infactuated with them when they happen to somebody else.

Is the media starting to cover more of this stuff or is the world getting worse and worse?

100% yes. I as a working member of the print media have seen first hand on the whole "if it bleeds, it leads" theory. It's real, and it happens often.

come on, after that long news cast about murder, rape, violence, celebrities, and other junk at the very end there is always one story about something good that is going on.

The media is focusing on the negative things going on in the world constantly. There beating all the bad news like a drum. It's getting old. The world is desenegrating into its own hell. And I'm getting tired of the way the media covers news these days. It's terrible.

When was there a time when the media didn't always cover the negative more than the positive?

"News" in this country is reality entertainment and people are a lot more entertained with missing blonde white-girl, husbands killing wives, co-workers shooting co-workers, etc. type stories than they are about stories about some kid helping an old-lady cross the street.

The media in this country learned a long time ago the ratings are better for tragedy, so you almost can't blame them for providing the people what they want.

                    A little Tool for you:

                    Eye on the TV
                    'cause tragedy thrills me
                    Whatever flavor
                    It happens to be

                    Like:
                    "Killed by the husband"
                    "Drowned by the ocean"
                    "Shot by his own son"
"She used the poison in his tea
[and / he] kissed [him / her] goodbye"
                    That's my kind of story
It's no fun til someone dies

                    Don't look me at like
                    I am a monster
                    Frown out your one face
                    But with the other
                    Stare like a junkie
                    Into the TV
                    Stare like a zombie
While the mother, holds her child
                    Watches him die
                    Hands to the sky cryin,
                    "Why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die
                    From a distance
                    Vicariously, I
Live while the whole world dies
You all need it too - don't lie.

Why can't we just admit it?

Exactly why I hardly ever watch tv news. At least online you can pick and choose what you read. The headlines are still bad alot but I just skip them.

Tried watching TV news and got sick of it.
