Re: I Don't Own a House Phone
The plan we have for our house phone is way cheaper than any cell phone plan I can think of - so it's in no way a waste of money.
I need to call long distance a lot, and we have a good plan.
Plus, I hate cell phones except for emergency. I see no reason for people to be contactable every single place they go... It's annoying when people are on cell phones all the time, not paying attention to people and things around them. You can wait until you're home to have that conversation, you know...
I know I'm grumpy about it - but I suppose if people just weren't so rude with cell phones, I wouldn't mind them at all. But I've run into so many careless people, and just plain rude people when they were on their phone. Watch the road? Why would I do that - I need to be using both hands to dial, while I hold up traffic... Not scream in the middle of a restaurant because I have bad reception? Pssh, the people around me trying to have a quiet dinner don't matter!Last edited by MC Fatigue; 12-19-2007, 03:32 AM.Comment

Re: I Don't Own a House Phone
There was a world before cell phones, and it worked perfectly fine.
And like I said EMERGENCY. What you described would be just that. What I said was that I hate that people think they need to be contactable everywhere - and so many people will not wait until the appropriate time to take or make a call.
I have a cellphone and my wife is the only person with the number. If something happens, she can call me. There's no reason anyone else in the world needs my cell phone. They can call my house number, and I'll get back to them when I get the message.Last edited by MC Fatigue; 12-19-2007, 03:41 AM.Comment

Re: I Don't Own a House Phone
There was a world before computers, the internet, and this forum, yet you're using all three of those right now. By your logic you shouldn't be using any of those. For that matter, what about electricity?Comment

And read my edit.
Both those things would be advantageous to you.Comment

The whole episode of Seinfeld with the movie theater could have been avoided if there were cell phones present.Comment

Re: I Don't Own a House Phone
How was it taking what you said out of context? You replied to me talking about emergencies and go on to say they aren't necessary and people got along perfectly fine without cell phones. I responded to that with other things people got along without perfectly fine that you are using right this moment.
Yeah, not so much.
So what happens when it's your wife that has the problem? What happens if your wife isn't at home? What good does would it be for her to be able to contact you if nobody can contact her?Comment

Re: I Don't Own a House Phone
And as you yourself pointed out, people lived without cell phones, even for emergencies, yet you have one for that exact reason.Comment

Re: I Don't Own a House Phone
I've been landline free since March this year. An interesting note is that I just read yesterday that for the first time in America, cell phone spending surpassed landline services.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

People did lots of things for thousands of years that we have either eliminated or improved upon, doesn't mean life was better before the advances.Comment

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment
