Hmm, one of the kids on the tennis team in HS cried. Not sure if that qualifies him as a moron though.
Now that I think back, that same kid said some of the stupidest **** I've ever heard. So yes, I have had a teammate that was a complete moron.Blind to this impending fate

Re: Does anyone here have a teammate thats a complete moron?
Had a few.
Freshmen year had a kid who was a good player but not great or anything. But he was a complete idiot, always ****ed around during practice, and was just a terrible teammate. Tried to act like a leader, but had no idea how to do it and just pissed people off. I know multiple people quit playing after freshmen year because they didn't want to play with for 3 more years. He was good though, and at the time our baseball program was a joke, so the coaches put up with him, even made him captain even though everyone hated him.
Sophmore year though the freshmen class was amazing. I think like 5 freshmen made varsity. So the coaches finally stopped dealing with his ****, they moved him to the outfield since he was a terrible shortstop because he tried to be so flashy. He got pissed, sulked, etc. Eventually they sent him down to JV so they wouldn't have to deal with him. I think he quit after sophmore year. Didn't play the next 2 years, then his 5th year (he was a terrible student, despite the fact that between 4th-8th grade he was in the "Advanced Learning Program" that like the 20 smartest kids in the the town in each grade are in) he went to the other high school in town and played for them.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

jct - not many people have your mindset. JV baseball isn't as important to them as it is to you. Just outwork/play them and have fun. Don't let other people bring you down. It's tough when it's your teammates but if they continue to do that ish then get in their face.Comment

Re: Does anyone here have a teammate thats a complete moron?
I need to rant. So we were doing outfield drills today and some freshman were grouped with my group. We were going through everything as normal and of course I was working hard, you know sprinting to every fly ball and trying to get under it instead of just jogging over and barely catching it. Well our outfield coach isn't the strictest guy to say the least, and alot of guys jack around when we are out there. So this freshman goes and its a slow roller, and instead of charging it and firing the ball to the guy he was supposed to, he kinda jogs and just lobs it in, no effort whatsoever. So he gets back and I kindly tell him, "Man you need to go full speed, you're not going to get any better." Which he replies with "Do you even play?" Because his older brother starts on varsity and I guess he thinks he is a big shot like his older brother.
Ding! We have a winner for complete moron of the day. For one he totally avoided my question about putting forth effort and getting better. Assuming that he can just come out and everyone will hit exactly to him every single time and he doesn't need to earn his position. Two he doesn't even know who I am. Now I'm not a star, but I go out every single time and play like it is my last game, because I never know what tomorrow will bring, and he acts like he is better than me even though he has never seen my play in my life.
Sorry if this is completely random and so what, but I just needed to vent my anger about this and how no one tries when we do our outfield drills.
that should straighten him out.#SimnationComment

Re: Does anyone here have a teammate thats a complete moron?
To the OP. At that age, unless your an established veteran yourself, most people aren't going to listen to you unless your a coach...just the way it is. While he should be busting ***, it's his perogitive to slack off and if the coaches are paying attention, then they'll pick up on it and either do something about it or just cut him. In the same breath. If you are not an established leader\captain, etc...leave that stuff up to the coaches as you may end up coming across like a kiss *** (no offense). Again, if you are some what of an authoritative figure (such as a designated captain) on the team and feel that you have earned the respect of others and have earned the right to call others out, then by all means, go ahead and do that. I have no idea what your role is on the team.
In my experience, there are always a few guys on a team (usually veterans) that other people actually listen and respond to. They are the guys that can get away with getting in another players face, they are the ones that rally a team that isn't paying attention, etc. If you're not that guy and try to come across as that guy, people will most likely not care and even flame you for doing so. If you are that guy, they will listen.
And sadly, while it shouldn't be based on skill, it usually is, at least at lower levels. Nobody is going to listen to the kid that doesn't play or the kid who can't catch a routine grounder. And on the same note, if the kid is the best kid on the team, he's likely to get away with a little more.
My advice: If your a leader and the coaches have somewhat acknoweldged your role as a leader then do what you did. If not, I'd say back off and lead by example. As I said before a good coach will pick up on what is happening.Comment

Re: Does anyone here have a teammate thats a complete moron?
Yea, I say it's up to the coach.
I dealt with crap like that in highschool and unfortunately had bad coaches that didn't care. Their deal was just getting the best players on the field even if they slacked during practice. And yet we still couldn't win baseball games. Never understood their philosophy. And one of them was a Marlins scout. He sucked."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Does anyone here have a teammate thats a complete moron?
I remember when I was playing in the Ontario Provincials, our SS made an error and walked off the field at the end of the inning. When he got to about 20 feet from the dugout our coach just yelled at him "You may as well keep on walking!" Kid didn't even break stride...just walked right through the dugout and out of the stadium. He knew he ****ed up.
I guess that why our team was one of the best in the province though...our work ethic was insane.Blue Jays, Blackhawks, AuburnComment
