Kid didn't even break stride...just walked right through the dugout and out of the stadium. He knew he ****ed up.

I guess that why our team was one of the best in the province though...our work ethic was insane.
One mistake and you're done...too brutal IMO, a good coach helps a kid learn from his mistakes IMO.

Yea that really puts too much pressure on the kids. That just leads to them not taking risks anymore, which could hurt in the long run.

I think the kid got yelled at for walking off of the field (as opposed to running) and not the error, at least that is the way I took it. If that is the case, I like it (in certain cases). In my experience the players that whine, complain, piss and moan, etc. after they make a bad play or strike out are cancers to their teams. It's easy to play hard and compete when things are going good, but the real players play hard and compete when things are at their worst. Kick some dirt, bang your fist against the wall if you have to, and then get over it and move on.

As one of my former coaches used to say, "if you ever walk on the field, you might as well walk home", which eventually became "if you're gonna walk, walk home."

If it was for the error, than that is jacked. I think good coaches penalize players for mental errors, but not physical errors. Failure to run out a pop up, penalize him. Making a bad throw, no penalty.

Kind of similar, but every team or most teams I've been on have always had a player or two that have trouble throwing their helmet after experiencing failure in an at bat. On my college team, we had a guy who was notorious with the helmet and had been warned several times. So one day in a scrimmage he grounded into a double play and threw his helmet...long story short, he spent the rest of practice walking back and forth along the warning track throwing his helmet and then picking it up over and over again for the next hour and a half or so...suprisingly he got better, but not cured. Later on in the year he threw his helmet, it bounced and hit a coach and he got suspended for the next few games.

Our coach just "benched" him for the game...he came back the next day and hit a walkoff double to send us to the finals.

But no one ever came close to walking off the field again. And the fact that he didn't even break stride or pick up his stuff from the bench was, and will always be one of the funniest things I'll ever see at a baseball game.

OK thanks for the stories guys, they really kinda helped me out. I figured that if they don't want to try then I'm not going to mess with them. I don't ever walk of the field but we have plently of players that do it whether they are JV Varsity or Freshman. I kinda had to talk the role of a leader the other day in practice because our coach that was in the outfield is a moron too and doesn't disicpline anyone. I was the one who kept telling everyone to move the line and stuff so they wouldn't be in the way when a guy was going after a fly ball. Even with the little respect I was getting, people were still making fun of me for trying so hard, and you know what I did, I blew them off and still tried as hard as I could.

I kinda caught a break, one our starting varsity outfielders went down with with a broken collarbone today. It's not the way I would have wanted it to happen but I guess everything happens for a reason.

when i played in HS i was kinda small. 5'11 155lbs.(i am now 50 lbs heavier) But i played hard. I wasnt the strongest, but i played my heart out and was given team captain. Given my size i wasnt getting in anyones face lol, but i let people know when they were slacking. and if i said something they usually said sorry man, ill hustle next time.
