    North Carolina weather forecasts stink

They predicted 1-3 inches of snow for my area. I've got about as much snow as you'd expect on the African plain. They are terrible in forecasting snow in North Carolina. They had reporters spread thruout the state all day reporting basically that it was raining. Breaking in between regular telecasts to tell us this amazing, earth-shattering news.

I remember one year, 2000 I think, we were one year removed from a predicted 1-2 inch dusting that turned into a record blizzard. This time, they said we were due for a foot & it ended up being literally partly cloudy.

They have no idea how to predict snow here.

It's a good thing you guys didn't get what they were calling for or else the entire state would have shut down. People down there don't know how to drive in even a half an inch of snow.

What part of the state are you in, John? I'm in Winston-Salem, and while it was snowing pretty heavily yesterday/last night, it wasn't cold enough for it to stick.

Coming from South Bend, IN; I must say that the people here freak out over nothing. They put down salt on the road before bad weather occurs. They close everything due to a possibility of bad weather.

Back in Indiana is would snow a foot and the plows wouldn't come out to help. You had to shovel your car out and drive in deep snow.

Down East. About 40 minutes north of Rocky Mount.

& fellas, NC does freak out over snow. They had kids stuck in school about 2 winters ago because of an unexpected couple of inches. I believe they have just one snow plow for my county & the one above it.

Man, I remember that storm when I lived here before I moved to West Virginia. In the High Point area, they predicted 2-4 inches of snow. The next morning, I wake up and they're a foot of snow on the ground. I think you folks in Raleigh got about 20 or so inches from that if I am not mistaken.

Back to this storm, we got about an inch and they predicted 1-2 inches, so I guess they technically hit it, but they predicted it to arrive around 6 a.m. and it arrived at 2 p.m. and predicted it to leave around 9 p.m. and it pulled out of here at about 7 p.m.

If you think North Carolina forecasts are bad, move to Charleston or Huntington, West Virginia. It's next to impossible to forecast correctly there with all the Albert Clippers. Sometimes, they'll forecast 1-3 inches and we get nothing or a dusting. Sometimes they forecast a dusting to and inch and we get 6 inches of snow. Of course, the reason we got 6 inches of snow up there is because we lucked out by getting under a narrow heavy snow shower, but still.

And to the freaking out over snow, they closed school BEFORE the storm on Thrusday when we received about 3/4 of an inch, LOL!

People at my job told me about that storm of Jan. 2005... People who normally had 30 minute commutes into the office were either stuck, or it took them like 6 hours to get home... Last year, they predicted some kind of winter storm, and the office closed. I happened to be off that day, and didn't even know the office had been closed until the next day when I went to work... People were anticipating some kind of storm, all the supermarkets were packed with people stocking up enough goods for like 3 weeks... I was laughing the whole time... During the day, I was out driving around, like it was nothing... It's funny, really.

Of course they suck, twice in the last 3 years they have predicted 100% chance of 6-8 inches in a night and BOTH TIMES we didn't even get a dusting. I mean come on, 100% chance and it does nothing, how in the hell do you miss it that bad twice in 3 years. Not to mention we've had many many times where they predict a dusting and get 4 inches. Its amazing how far weather predicting has NOT come.

What is even funnier is how we can't even forecast what the weather is going to be tomorrow correctly, yet we think we can forecast what the climate will be like in 50 years correctly.

Feel lucky they used salt. I worked in Morehead City, NC one year and we shut down early because of minimal snow. They blocked the highway back to New Bern with their spreader and a state maintenance escort truck in the adjacent lane. They were spreading sand. Yes, sand.

Nothing's worse than Los Angeles and forecasting rain. I don't care what anyone says.

Every "storm" comes in at 3am, rains till 5am, and is gone by the time the morning rush is underway. All the meanwhile, they're predicting a full day of rain with cold temperatures and overcast skies when not raining.

The weathermen here can't predict temperatures. They'll say upper 90s and it'll hit 105. Completely screws over the entire city..

I decided to try accuweather this weekend, pulled away from the weather channel and accuweather predicted up to 1" of snow in our area of NC and got mostly cloudy skies after an all day rain on Saturday. This bummed me out because accuweather was even wrong.
