So Who Else Doesn't do the Flesh Thing

I started out my lacto-vegetarian lifestyle yesterday, and I feel confident I can never consume any meat for the rest of my life.

My main concern: I'm pretty "muscular" and I'm fearing that I'll get skinny. Obviously I weight train to stay fit, for those who practice this lifestyle, I'll be fine right?

Also, any tips? One of my veggy friends said she takes an iron supplement and suggested I do the same, and a multi vitamin. I understand for men my age [19-51], the daily allowance for iron is 8 mg. So should I be taking a pill with a little less than that? Also with the multi vitamin, any advice on how much dosage should be in it? And any other tips as well?

I've done my fair share of research, but I'd like to get some personal responses as well.

Back away and eat a ribeye. How can it be mean to eat cows when it tastes so damn good!

I'll be honest. I have no advice or knowledge for you, but Lisa the Vegetarian is one of my favorite Simpsons episodes and it's not everyday I a chance to post this awesome picture so I'm taking it.

Jimmy: Uhh, Mr. McClure? I have a crazy friend who says its wrong to eat meat. Is he crazy?
Troy: Nooo, just ignorant. You see your crazy friend never heard of "The Food Chain". Just ask this scientician.

Better man than I. I can't give up steaks, pork chops, and chicken legs.

The day I give up steak, pork chops and chicken is the day I kill myself.

Good luck on the lacto/veggie diet though!

If anyone ever hears me utter the words, "I started out my lacto-vegetarian lifestyle yesterday," you have my permission to shoot me in the face.

They are delicious Doc. But my reasoning isn't because it's cruel to eat animals, it's simply inefficient. Countless people could be fed with the grain livestock eat, as it requires 10 times as many crops to feed animals being bred for meat production as it would to feed the same number of people on a vegetarian diet.

I no longer want to support one of the largest downfalls to our enviornment. Animal farms are one of the biggest carbon producers on the planet, and cattle farming takes out about a football field of rainforest a day to produce about 250 hamburgers.

I realize it seems insignificant for one person to stop eating meat, while at the same time probably still purchase other animal products, but it helps me sleep better at night. I just wish more people could be fed.

Don't take this the wrong way, but

How about you just purchase some of those dumb carbon offsets and eat all the meat you want? That's how Al Gore lights and heats that huge house of his....

Yeah, I'm not interested in getting into a pissing match so I'll just leave it at this: those rainforests are still being cut down, I don't feel right supporting that so it seemed simple to me what I should do.

The internet is a wonderful thing.. I have gotten a lot of specifics from there. Mostly just your basics. Nothing really too exciting but they could all get the job done nutrition wise. A lot of nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans.

People would actually be surprised how many normal meat meals have been veggified.
