I would never be accepting of it, especially how hostile the situation was. It was like a hostile takeover. I recently found out that on my class Armenia trip, two weeks after I broke up with the girl, they "hooked up" with each other. All the while, he was trying to "console" me, having heart-to-hearts and telling me everything'll be alright and ****. Yeah, right.

This is exactly the reason why the "Joe" situation is screwed up and there's never an excuse for it.

Yeah I don't see how guys find that acceptable but that's just me.

I PERSONALLY don't think it's ever acceptable. However, this happened AGAIN with another one of my ex-GFs. One of the friends in my tight circle is dating her and has been dating her for a long time now. I dated her for four months. He's not my best friend despite being in a tight circle with some of my much closer friends, and it wasn't a "hostile takeover" situation. He's not as sleazy as the other guy. With some situations, you can just tell where there's malicious intent involved.

I still find it reprehensible, and I was extremely pissed, because I don't think it should ever be done...But I didn't take drastic actions this time around because of what it meant with my other, closer friends and given the unique circumstances of this situation in comparison to the one before.

My answer:

Because my best friend is like my brother. I don't toss my friendship around like loose change. I want to be able to trust the guy with my life. I'd like to know, without any doubt, that I could trust him to say......pick up my wife from the airport if I'm out of town and not have to worry about him hitting on her.

Best friends don't do that and they certainly don't rate to be my best man when they do.

Trust is the single most important to me in any type of relationship.

Well said. It's just wrong in every way, shape, or form. You go out with a female, she's part of YOUR history. If you have a "best friend", he should be able to respect the past, and respect your choices. Once you've dated that female, she should be off limits forever.

I'm confused here. Why if your best friend is going out with an ex of yours from say 10 years ago, would you have to worry about him hitting on your wife? I don't see the correlation between the two. Maybe I'm just dense tonight.

We'll have to agree to disagree here.

Personal example.

A pretty good friend of mine that I talk to on a regular basis and see almost every weekend, is married and has a kid with one of my ex's. I hadn't seen or talked to her in 6 years when he introduced me, he had no idea she was one of my ex's as him and I weren't friends when I was going out with her. It doesn't matter at all to me that they are together, and I hang out with both of them all the time.

And you ask before you do a damn thing....I've seen someone date their best friend's ex, but they talked it over and he was fine with it. A little honesty goes a long way. It's the behind the back ish that kills friendships.

See now we get into the what if games. I can't tell you because I'm not in that position and haven't been. I know that it would be hard to forgive and forget, but I also don't believe in divorce either unless there is no other way around it. As a matter of fact unless I'm totally sure of someone I'm not walking down the aisle to begin with. I'd not be "cool with it" but if this was just some relationship that didn't even matter than much down the line hell no I wouldn't carry a grudge over it. I don't want my heart hardened with grudges. That would be on those two individuals and if somewhere down the line I could tell they were sincere about it sure I'd give them a 2nd chance. But only 1 chance if they screwed it up that's it.
