    My Grandfather has liver cancer...

We just got the news today. He is scheduled for a biopsy on Monday to see how serious it is, but from the CT scan, it appeared that it was pretty large. And from what I've heard, it seems like there will probably be nothing the doctors can do...in other words, it's a death sentence most likely.

My grandpa and I were always close, too. Unfortunately, he and my grandma is live in Spring Hill, Florida whereas I live in High Point, North Carolina, so I don't get to see them but twice a year usually. My grandma has been crying all day and my mom is also having a really hard time.

He has lost 40 pounds over the last five months (he went from 185 to 145, and his is 6'2") and has lost all his appetite. My grandma has to basically force him to eat, because he has no will to eat. He sweats a whole lot at night and always feels very tired. I saw him at Christmas and noticed how he had lost weight (he was about 165 then) and he really didn't feel like doing much. He was always active, especially for a 76 year old. I went fishing with him; he was always doing things and seemed like he would live forever. I guess I was wrong, which was obviously the case as no one lives forever.

I can only hope I get to see him one last time before he dies, which will probably be in late March, so hopefully it is not that bad. I hope they can cure it. Sorry, I just had to vent my feelings somewhere...

I watched my grandfather go through that process as well. When I was younger he was 6'4 and 220+ lbs, by the end he was closer to 170. It's sad but at least find comfort in the fact he reached an age where he got to see his grandkids grow up. I hope you get to see him as soon as you can.

Sorry to hear that. My dad passed away due to liver cancer too. The biggest mistake me and my mom made was allowing him to go through chemo. He lost hair, weight, and appetite. His kidney stopped functioning due to the damage caused by chemo, and his ankles and waist swelled up due to water retention. It was a really sad sight. If it weren't for the chemo, he could've at least spend 2 quality months (eat some good food, do some karaoke, etc) before passing.

Yeah, my other grandfather went on chemo before he died of non-hodgkins lymphoma. He swelled up and got really skinny, and like you said, it was a sad sight. I actually got to watch my other grandfather die in the hospital last year (he was 68), but I got to see him a lot before he died since I lived in West Virginia last year, which is where he lived. However, finally we stopped the chemo as it didn't do any good and let him pass away. I am actually closer to my grandparents in Florida, but I don't get to see them much, which makes me sadder.

Oh well, I can hope and pray for the best...

Just hang in there James, I lost 2 grandparents in 1 year and what made it harder for me is that they lived in a different country so I hadn't seen them in 6 years when they both passed. Now my mom's parents I haven't seen in 8 years, they live in Greece. I can see where you are coming from about it being sad that they live far away. Good luck with everything man.
