    Iraqi Sand Storm

I'm too lazy to post all the pics but here's what I think is the most amazing of the pics on this page

    Iraqi Sand Storm pics

I know we have a couple or so vets of the Iraq war. I have two questions:

    1. How common were the sands storms?

    2. Are they always that big?

Wow...that reminds me of the scene in Armageddon when Paris is getting lit up by parts of the asteroid.

        1. They were common enough to have one or two a month or so.

        2. No, they weren't always that big. I remember two that were huge but the others weren't two bad.

I have a couple pics from a sandstorm in Iraq, and one of the view you get while in one. I just don't know how to post them here.

EDIT: One of the ones I have is the same as one of yours. Where you in Balad? I was there around the beginning of 06.

Hey, I've been to Balad. I was on my way back to Al Asad from R&R. The C-130 we were in had some problems with the flares, so we had to stop there first.

@ OP. They are not all that big. But, one thing I will say...If the wind is blowing hard enough, they hurt like a SOB. You would be surprised where sand can end up.

I only went through one and it was big. We were in the Anbar Province, about 80 clicks from Syria. Felt like I was shot with a hundred bb's. Sucked azz.

There is always someone out looking around or standing around before something major hits. Some people do it because they dont know how bad its gonna be others because they are too stupid to care.

Or they've been in sandstorms before (knew this one was coming) and they were just going to walk right inside the shelter before it got there.

Yeah I can understand that too but me myself I would be inside long before it would be visible (I am coward when it comes to mother nature)

Thanks for the info guys. That's pretty crazy stuff. I know I couldn't survive being stuck in the middle of a sand storm like that.
