Re: Anyone take in a stray cat before?

My girlfriend's dad took in a stray kitten. The mother had lived in his backyard, and my gf (about 5-6 at the time from what I gather) wanted a cat, and some of the kittens appeared to have been left behind by the mother. They took one of them in, it had a large tooth that stuck out, and had some other oddities, but it was a nice cat. It recently died from cat leukemia (I probably butchered the spelling), at least that is what I think they called it. It was a very friendly cat, looked a bit rough with the tooth, but was still nice.

My parents took in a stray about 11 years ago. We already had one cat, and this one (Samantha) was quiet a wild one. However, after a while, both cats got along great. They wound up both pretty much being my little girls, as I grew up with them always around. They both slept in my room every night, and went downstairs with me in the morning. I loved them both to death.

Samantha (the stray) passed away 4 years ago from sickness. Chenniese, our other cat, had to be put down last month from fluid in the lungs and a growing mass in her stomach. I miss them both so much, but they were great for each other, and we gave them both great lives.

I had a really rough time when Samantha passed, because I still lived at home at the time and had never really lost a pet before. Chenniese wasn't as hard because i've lived away from home for well over a year now, but it's still hard, because every time I visited my parents, she would come running to me and sit with me until I left.

In short, I feel we gave Sam a great life off of the streets, and she made all of our lives better. If you feel the same with this cat, give it a shot, but obviously get it checked first.

Thanks for the input guys. I think me & my housemates are gonna do what we can to take in this cat. He pretty much just keeps coming back day after day, more for pets and attention than anything else. After we get him checked out and whatnot, then we'll probably "adopt" him
