    Wish me good luck!

I went to a job interview for graphics artist position on Sunday and I think it went well. I mean, 4 people interviewed me all together: Human resources coordinator (or something like that), graphics department supervisor, creative director and an art director. It felt like a press conference LOL... But it was OK and the guys were nice (as possible for a job interview). Today I'm going there again for what they called "orientation session" for about 3 hours. I'll probably sit and do some work on the graphics studio department and get to see how they work. In an hour I'm going there, so hope everything goes well and both me and them will like eachother. I mean, I'm not gonna work at any place that hires me, it's important to me to see that the place fits me. Wow I really hate those "tryout" working sessions at new work places, but in my field it's a must, u can't hire some1 just because of his experience or portfolio, I can understand that.

Good luck with it. Those multiple person interviews are always a little rough, but go wow the crap out of them today. And if they dont like what you do, make a nice graphical presentation of what you think of them before you leave

LOL nahhh, I'm a nice person, no hard feelings...I've gone through so many job interviews in my life that I don't take it personally. Anyway, job interviews here are less formal than in the US (mostly), I mean u can wear a polo shirt or even T-shirt with jeans and it's OK (at least for this kind of position). If u wear a suit or an elegant shirt with a tie and elegant pants, people will look at u like u've come from another planet...

          Re: Wish me good luck!

Thanks guys! Well, I got home. I went there at 4pm and they let me sit next to one of their Macs and gave me some graphics to make. It took me a lot of time, and they interrupted me twice. Once, one of their designers needed me to help her to do something and I'm almost sure it was part of the "test" - becuase she told me I can save it on my desktop, and asked me to make a PDF out of it, but did nothing with the PDF - she didn't even send it to the client. At about 7:30-8:00pm one of the account managers needed me to help her because there was no body else in the office to do that. But this time it was for real because she talked to the client on the phone and we sent a PDF on the mail.
Oh and I forgot to tell u that there was another grapics artist being tested with me. They gave us the same thing and we sat at the same room. Funny that they only asked me to help them and not her. Anyway, it became late so I did 2 of the 3 things they'd given me and wrote in the Illustrator file (next to the graphics) that it's been to late for me to do it all, and that I had to help their employees. the hardest thing (and the one that probably took the most time) was to take a photo of 2 people on a beach, and take them out of the background and put them on another background. It's something I do everyday, but the woman had all the hair messed up and a lot of seperated hair, so it's a real pain in the *** to extract woman's hair.
Well, I'm not sure if it was OK or not, but at 9:30pm I just didn't care anymore. It probably took me too long to do it all, so I don't think my chances are good, but we'll see. But I know that the atmosphere in that company is cool and the people are OK. After working for many places and being interviewed so many time, I can sense it after 2 minutes.

              Re: Wish me good luck!

Thanks dude! But knowing that I didn't do the third thing doesn't seem like the right choice. Anyway I admit the whole thing took me too long, but who the hell builds a CD cover on Illustrator?! U build it on InDesign, only get the logos from Illustrator. The problem is that many companies here only recently switched to Illustrator/InDesign after years of working with Freehand (and for some reason there are designers at this company that still use Freehand). And because of that it seems to me that many companies here don't understand what Illustrator is for and what InDesign is for. It doesn't really matter to me as I can use both, but it's stupid to use only Illustrator IMO.

                Re: Wish me good luck!

Well, the human resources coordinator has just called me and told me I passed! They want me to start as soon as possible. I told her I'll need to talk to my boss and then see when I can leave, but I assume it will be just fine to start on April 6 (we work on Sundays, for those of u who wondered). I hope to sign the contract on Sunday and make it official. She told me that the deal is closed and she's waiting for me to sign!
Not a big change on the salary, but still a little bit more. Now I'm gonna shock my current boss and tell him I'm leaving...
