I don't necessarily have a problem with the sign on the house if the person is actually a child molester, but I would have a serious problem with a sign being placed on a guy's house because he was 18 and had sex with his 16 year old girlfriend or the example that was used earlier where the guy pissed outside a bar and was placed on the predator list.

That's a completely different story and I'm sure many would agree with you.

Over the top? Maybe? Effective? ABSOLUTELY.

My only problem with it is where does it end? Why should child molesters have this sort of treatment and guys who rape a girl not get the same exact treatment?

Come to think of it, why shouldn't every crime warrant a sign plastered on the criminals house. You shoplifted? Stick it on the house.

What's the point of sending these people to jail if they aren't going to get a second chance? Why not just keep them in jail?

And the 18 and 16 year old story isn't completely different. If it becomes completely different, then you're saying some sex offenses warrant the sign and some don't. But then were do we draw the line?

As for drawing the line, I would imagine this is a mater of judicial discretion, so we allow our Judges to make the decision as to whom puts up such a sign. It can be done as part of their sentencing, thus alleviating the constitutional concerns that plague this issue.

If you are a convicted child molester the punishment should be two bullets in the head. Don't waste taxpayers money putting these pieces of garbage in jail.

Except when the charges are trumped up. Which actually happens quite a bit with teen girls getting mad at their parents or someone else and making false accusations.

This happens in the South, particularly the state of Georgia more than it does elsewhere.

Please. Your post brought up some good points, but that cheap shot at the end just destroyed any credibility you may have had in the first place. People acting like you are why OS can't have political discussions.

First, your BROAD STROKE and TOTALLY incorrect correlation of my pitiful comment to the ENTIRE U.S. justice system is a cheap shot(so should we dismiss you're entire statement?)...touche.

.....and my closing statement may have been a bit of a cheap shot...but is so true of some members of O.S. it's not even funny(really, it's not....it's quite sad). They(and probably you) know who they are.
To even allude to someone "like myself" as someone who perpetuates the type of behavior that would preclude political discussion on O.S. is laughable.
I should actually take a little offense to that as you just seem to have thrown that statement out there with virtually no basis(unless you're counting that weak attempt at trying to tie my "pitiful" comment into a political comment, which it is not).
We could argue throughout the century at where victims and citizens as a whole vs. CONVICTED CRIMINALS should have their rights start/end and overlap...but it's really not productive as we've found out so many times here on O.S.

Nice. This makes complete sense, especially when it's a 19 yr old and a 15 yr old who lies about her age.

The parents vilify the the 19 yr old and he has to suffer the rest of his life because this is considered "child molestation."

Glad to see someone here is thinking logically.

And Pared that's why I'm not really a fan of signs on the houses of any child molesters. I just don't have enough faith in the system that signs won't be placed on the houses of the 19 year old guy in a situation like that.

Exactly, which is why setting a precedent like this is ridiculous. It's really just some po-dunk judge in Kansas being cute, but it's now legal precedent... great.

And yeah, let's just kill all the criminals. That's a nuanced position. Some of you guys are totally ridiculous. Our justice system is clearly SO perfect that it should be the arbiter of who lives and dies. Capital punishment is a travesty -- the rest of the developed Western countries understand that, but we're still busy living our Wild West "Woo, let's go to a hangin'!" fantasy over here.

I see what you're saying but most of the comments being made here are in the mindset we're talking about an older person and a child that is 2.. 5... very young.

I knew exactly where you guys were going with it but in the situation of an older adult and a young defenseless child... I would have no problem with it. Let them be social outcasts and shunned by society. They are sick blanks who deserve worse than that.

Anyone see Gone Baby Gone? This is immediately what comes to mind during this topic. Great movie that makes you question what you would do in a similar situation.

Thats exactly what I'm talking about is a child molester, a person who preys on young children. It ruins lives. I don't want to take a chance trying to rehabilitate these clowns, just kill them.

Here's a true story. About 5 years ago my friends older brother Dennis, 13 years older than him got arrested for molesting a kid. In the course of his confession it came out that he had done this to 18+ kids over the years(he couldn't remember if there were more he didin't mention. On the list was my 2 friends Corey & Bill and Corey's brother among others that I knew. It happened Years ago when they were just little kids. We all lived in the same neighborhood. Thank God nothing ever happened when I was over there at a slumber party.

Anyway Corey's brother was messed up ever since it happened, but noone knew why because he never told anybody and he drank heavily even as a kid. Fast Forward to when he was 16 he gets in a drunk driving accident is thrown from the car but his leg is still wedged in the car. He has multiple surgeries and never fully recovers. He died in 2005 most likely caused by an overdose of pain pills and liquor.

Knowing what that family had to endure makes me sick. On top of that the Molester sat there and told the judge that he better lock him up for good or he'd do it again. He got 15 years, will probably serve much less. He'll do it again if given the opportunity. Now why should this clown get an opportunity to be back in society? Its a risk I would not take if I had the authority.

That's because the parents didn't handle it right or discipline the child right to begin with. I tried that once and my mom said fine, here is the phone and you better hope you get a good family to live with. She called my bluff and that was over.
