    Moving to England Tomorrow

I've known this was going to happen for the past month or so but now it is really starting to hit me.

I think the biggest thing I am going to miss besides my family is North American sports. Its a big part of my life, and while I enjoy soccer it can't nothing compare to college or pro football.

Of course I'll still be visiting OS daily but, like everything, its going to be just a little different.

if you can get cable, they have a channel called NASN that shows all north american sports. Also SKY cable has a NFL package you can get. Talk to your co-workers about the different packages. Also, visit NFLUK.COM. The UK fans there can help you.

What's the cost of living over there? This is something I'd consider doing later in my life if it isn't cost-prohibitive, and if I'd be able to move my future career over there.

Depending on where you move to in England you'll love it. I went there a few years ago and absolutely loved the place. I may be going back this summer as well.

Yes they do show North American sports if you have the right cable/sat. set up. I remember staying up most of the night one night and watching some NASCAR LOL!

          Re: Moving to England Tomorrow

My family had the chance to move to Scotland about 9 years ago. I was the reason we didn't, I was too concerned about never seeing my friends again (I was in sixth grade). In an amazing twist of irony, my two best friends moved during the next 2 years across the country. I ended up a couple years back seeing where I would have lived, where I would have gone to school (same school as Tony Blair), and where my dad would have worked (right near Sterling Castle). It would have only been for about 4 years. I still have some regrets about that.

Hope you like it there, I really liked England when I visited there. Where in England are you going to be living? I hope they pay you in pounds, the conversion rate sucks so bad for Americans. I got pizza hut with my mother, cost about 25 bucks for 2 personal pan pizzas (the tiny ones) and 2 drinks.

I'm extremely jealous. I'll trade you North American sports for endless amounts of proper football any day of the week.

Have fun dude and good luck with the move.

              Thanks guys.

I'm moving to London - Greenwich to be exact. Expensive but there are three of us going together into an affordable two bedroom and we'll all be getting paid (every week) in pounds. Shouldn't be too bad. I'm already coming up with a grandiose scheme to get Arsenal and Glastonbury Festival tickets.

Good luck man, I've been to London and it's nice, though not what it used to be. Personally I can't stand soccer

If you get a chance, check out the west end. I don't know if you are into theater or not, but London has some of the best in the world.

Not good at all initially- I spent 5 months in London and the exchange rate was owning me.

However, once you start getting paid in pounds, you'll be in better shape.

You can do it, you just won't be living in a swank pad initially (which is basically like any other city).

Xavier, Greenwich is awesome. I took a day-trip out there and its gorgeous. I didn't really feel like I missed my North American sports that much. I got NFL.com fieldpass so I listened to Jets games over there. I went to a great sports bar in London to watch the 2003 World Series. I saw the Boone walkoff and loved seeing the Sox fans there (even though I'm a Mets fan). There are a ton of expats there so you'll be able to keep up.

Also, you'll get into soccer which is awesome. I watched a Champions League game while I was in Europe (Amsterdam actually) but you'll have a unique chance to watch some of the best players in the world.

I was a little homesick the first day (I went to a Pizza Hut LOL), but I quickly acclimated. After a while, it felt really no different than being in the states (other than my lack of TV, but I'm sure you'll have one).

Lived in England for about a month and I was very much homesick. I was used to traveling all over North America (music buisness) but going to Europe really hit me hard the first week there. I enjoyed it though!

                        Thanks for the info guys.

I just went to the bank and "bought" 1100 pounds just for when I first get over there.

Felt like a combination of getting arrested and your woman stealing everything out of your house.

Our crazy going away party tonight should help cheer me up.

                        Last night in North America...Damn.

                            Yeah, well it can be.

My contract runs out in late July but I can reup if I want for another year.

I plan on staying that extra year - especially considering the ordeal it has been to get the stars aligned and get everything organized to move and work out there.

The beauty is my mother is British so I have a Right to Abode and can live and work as long as I want. No work visas for me and it helps coming from Canada.

That's because the USD is worth diddly poo!

Then again at the moment the Canadian dollar is a shade under par with the USD so who am I to make fun
