It's not like the skinny girl jeans kids are a majority...they just stick out. I went to high school 6 years ago when the emo thing was starting. Before that there were the goth kids that wore all black with powdered faces. It's just a bunch of followers with no self-identity trying to be "unique."

Dood I saw that too! Guy had a skirt and a purse! His hair was all razor cut. I thought it was some kind of joke or something, like a dare. I guess people are running out of ideas to "shock" the old people.

I get a lot emo looking tools in my area too. Most dudes haircuts look like they cost more than most chicks. Very pretty with their dye jobs too.

I actually did notice a few guys with those girl pants on now that I looked for them. It does look weird, though I only saw a couple guys wearing them.

And, yes, I guess you could say some of the girls to dress like sluts, Fishepa!

High School Teacher Here: (however, from Wisconsin, so we're about 2-3 years late)

Guys: skater hair in the eyes and the tight jeans w/belt sagging so we can see about 3 inches of boxers. 5 years ago, had to deal with girls & thongs sticking out. Don't see that anymore, but instead see guys' undies. Nice.

We have a decent population of guys we call the "Carhartt Gang" because they just wear ratty hats and tan Carhartt stuff ALL THE TIME. Plus, they love to think that being dumb is cool (kids that actually are pretty smart, but would rather act like they don't know 2+2 because "that's too hard without a calculator").

We also have the small population of wanna-be gangstas. Cocked hats, saggy jeans, and big Ts. I never see them much in my math wing upstairs because they're usually in detention or absent.

So guys get 3 categories (skater, hick, oversized baggy)

Girls: Low-top shirts with massive cleavage. Some girls are almost to the stage of falling out of their tops, and it makes it VERY difficult as a HS teacher. You can't enforce the dress code because then they accuse you of "staring", but if you don't, then someone accuses you of NOT enforcing it.

Some girls in the past month have decided to start wearing HUGE tinted sunglasses during the day (cuz that's cool INDOORS!).

There really isn't a massive variation with girls like the guys. The girls are either tight clothes + makeup, or "normal" t-shirt, jeans, sneakers. We don't have the tight & tiny minskirt + thong issue we had a few years ago.

I have one question, however: what's the difference between emo and skater? What I described as skater may, in fact, be emo, but I have NO CLUE what the "emo" lifestyle is. That hit just after I left college (2000).
