    Hair loss questions/advice

Yeah, so my hair is starting to lose the survival battle . It's probably going to be gone in the near future but right now its only thinning in the temples etc. Hey, it gave me 23 good years. It's not bad right now but I'm the type to seize things like this aggressively.

Anyway, I'm pretty fortunate because I could care less about my hair and its been a pretty unmanageable frizzy mess my whole life. In some ways, this is a blessing in disguise. It's ridiculous curly. Thank goodness I haven't been appearance oriented in my life

I'm leaning towards shaving it all off eventually- today I just got it cut really short (#2) just because it was getting to the point where I'd occasionally have patches show up when my hair was longer. Tell you the truth, I'm really liking the short look and I could definitely see myself looking decent sans hair.

I'm just happy this isn't bugging me too much, I've seen some cats fighting the losing battle for a while. I'm not the type of person to take medication for it or do weird styling to hide it.

Any of you guys got any advice for dealing with this as my hair reaches its twilight? I'd love to hear stories from you guys.

I've been loosing my hair since I was 20 or 21, I'm 31 now. I really don't care about it, I've kept my hair buzzed (no guard on the clippers) or razor shaved since I was a freshman in HS. My advice is to keep it as short as you like that way it's harder to notice you're loosing it.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Bought a razer at Target...shave it at 3/8 about once a week and love it. I tell everyone at work it's a "preemptive strike."

Makes me look younger and easy to manage...double points!

Isn't hair loss genetic? Kind of hard to beat genes.

I like that way of thinking.

I'm in medical school right now, and I actually have to start waking up early next year. Less maintenance = win because I'm not going to have enough time to get ready most of the time LOL

Yeah, C, it's genetic- that's why I think there's little reason to fight it

Good deal. My g/f is in med school right now. She's currently in her third year on rotations. Starts her 4th year in June and has her boards in July. Becomes Dr. next June. I am hoping she stays in Vegas but who knows where she will get accepted for her residency.

Enjoy all the studying...I know she does!

So far I haven't been losing any hair. My father's side of the family is pretty good that way but my mother's side does have some hair loss. So I guess it could go either way. My problem is that i've got little strands of grey hair popping up. It's not easily identifiable but if you look closely you can see them. I'm guessing that i'm going to get some substantial greying by the time I hit 35.

As for hair grooming, the last 10 years i've been doing a #2. I like the look and it takes my hair a good 4 months before it gets too unbearable. So it's pretty easy to deal with.

My mom's side of the family does not lose their hair. My grandpa is 76 and still has a head full of gray hair. My dad's side, however, does. My dad and grandpa lost their hair starting about 25 and was mostly gone other than the sides by the time they were 35 or 40. It's yet to be determined which side I will take, though I really don't care either way.

"0" on the sides(no piece on the razor....just the lever flipped up) and cut short on top....but a little bit of length.

I always heard that hair loss comes from your mothers side of the family but I dont know if thats true or not. I hope its true because if you can get it from your dads side I may be in trouble.

That's what I absolutely plan on doing- I'll keep it short for the time being but if it gets worse, I have no qualms with going straight bald.

I've seen some pretty goofy looking efforts at cats trying to keep their youth that make the average combover look bad.

I used a lot of styling gel from 19-25 and that's probably what caused me losing some of it. I use hair cream today - but very little. And I use some local shampoo that's really helping me keeping what I still have. Anyway, unless u're Elton John, no way of getting bald at 28 and having thick hair at 60 LOL!
