Football WR questions
I got a question. What are some moves I can do to beat press coverage? I know the rip, but I'm trying to find some moves to mix it up with. I am pretty much 4 inches taller than the tallest DB, and can prob. out muscle most, but I am looking for diverse moves that work. I prob. have some more questions but thats all I can remember now.Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, Arsenal FC, Wildcats, Vols

Re: Football WR questions
I've never played football officially, but my advice would be to watch some of the best in the NFL at it. Owens (although it pains me to say) is great at being physical, so try watching him closely.Tomahawk Chopped - An FSU NCAA 11 Dynasty

Re: Football WR questions
I find the Swim move effective. I usually skate in a little or skate back out, but thats with Canadian rules. I don't think you can motion like that down South.
EDIT: Also, when the DB comes up to put their hands on you or get under your shoulder pads, club down on their hands with one fist or forearm. You should easily get around them after that. I don't know what you'd call it, various teams call it different things.Last edited by Spear; 04-28-2008, 11:19 AM.Owner, Spear Interactive

Re: Football WR questions
work on footwork and leverage. alot of Dbs stand straight up on the snap when they get in press coverage. A rip or swim is the best maneveur, but also try a Punch in the chest and rip left or right with your hands can work. A good Db, will buzz their feet and stay low on the snap and wait for you to come to them, try to attack at their their hip inside or outside and then make your move. Remember a wide outside release works to the Dbs advantage, and unless your route should stem inside, never get inside. If a rip or swim is not working, a punch with the hands can get seperation.Last edited by moose1619; 04-28-2008, 11:19 AM.I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me!

Re: Football WR questions
You can also take a hard move inside (or outside) as a fake and then go the other direction. They call it "Sticking", you do an inside stick (hard jab step to towards the LOS) and then make your break to the outsideCheck out my Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFM Thread.
You too can be a 5* recruit at FSU.......

Re: Football WR questions
Yeah, gotta be quick on that move. It also depends on which route you are running after that. A good DB might not fall for that and end up driving you too far outside.Owner, Spear Interactive

Re: Football WR questions
another thing, and it may sound funny but it works. work on your slap boxing skills, what i mean is get your coordination down on knocking away the db's hands when he tries to get them on you. when i was in college we used to do this drill, offensive tackles vs d-ends and wideouts vs dbsComment

good advice, use this with a swim move and you are on your way.I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me!

Re: Football WR questions
Dude its all about the double juke/fake. Nobody could press me, Nobody. And Im not trying to sound cocky, but this always works.
Juke one way, then the other, then finally take off. The key to making this work is to greatly exagerrate your 2nd fake.
So for example: quick upper body juke right, then overly extend your neck upper body to your left(making them think your taking off), and then finally use both hands to push off the left shoulder/arm of the defender to break free to your right.
One last thing. Always have your hands up(like a boxer),pre-snap.Last edited by sva91; 04-28-2008, 04:06 PM.Comment

Re: Football WR questions
All of these guys give good advice, but I think you've got the right idea when you say your trying to diversify you arsenal. My advice would be just mix it up, some moves won't be as effective but that'll just lull the DB into a false sense of security so you hit him with your best shot when it really counts.Comment

Re: Football WR questions
Its good when you have a brother that played OT to help you with your moves
I got another one for you guys, what sort of moves can I do to throw the CB off or "turn his hips"? I already do a little jab step the opposite direction of my route (jab step left for a slant over the middle), but are there any other moves or techniques I can use to throw the CB off?Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, Arsenal FC, Wildcats, Vols

Re: Football WR questions
One That I have seen work is the spin move on the slant route. If you're running a slant route start to the outside and then when they jam you just spin off into your route. Someone did it to me once and completely caught me off guard.Comment

Re: Football WR questions
on quick routes, like the slant you just have to be decisive and give one cut and go. on intermediate routes you need to try and give the same/similar look on ALL of the routes. here is what i mean, a 10 yard dig/crossing route, a 10 yard out and a post route are all crucial in the first 8-10 yards coming off the line, if you make them all look the same the db's head will be spinning. for example, whenever i run a post route i drive off the line for the first 8-10 yards, then break to the inside on a 45 degree angle for about 2 steps and then open it up toward the post. for the dig/crossing route start EXACTLY the same all the way up to he 45 degree angle, take those 2 steps and then break across the field. for the out do it exactly the same but after the 2 steps spin back to the outside and as always remember to break downhill on the out route to help eliminate the db's chance of undercutting the route. i will tell you one thing, if you run the dig and the post atleast that way, you will have your way with the corner because he will not be able to figure out your intention. of course if the corner is way faster than you it will be a moot point. GOOD LUCK!!Comment
