Are you serious? Either say something to the people that are doing it or let it go. I can imagine how angry you were, "Darn it honey, when I get home I am posting about this on OS, these hoodlums have taken it too far now."

If hearing profanity is the worst thing wrong with "young men" these days, that would put the "young men" of these days at the top of the list for upstanding "young men" of all days.
Personally, I'd say cursing beats out lynching, war, crack, and serial killers.Comment

The point is, is that these two clowns we're going to try and get under his skin.....just for the f**k of it. Because they feel they can. Now, he has to go and explain to his daughter that the "F" word is bad when he shouldn't have to in the first place, because a couple of wannabe thugs think their "hard".Comment

Re: What's wrong with young men these days?
To be honest, doesn't bother me. If they are not directing obsenities at me, who am I to tell someone what they can and can't say? Because I don't agree with it doesn't give me the right to push my will on someone elses personal freedom. Agree or disagree with what they say or how they are acting, it's personal freedom that makes this country great.
Is it inconsiderate, certainly, is it something that I put a lot of thought in to? No. I usually just head the other direction. I am certainly not going to get in to a confrontation over profanity. Like somehow violence is the lesser of the two evils.Comment

I'm constantly downtown and in Montreal these losers always do the same thing...
Albeit, I'm 20 and not 4 so I can see what the OP is saying...As long as the kid isn't hearing this on a daily basis it shouldn't be that big a deal.Comment

Re: What's wrong with young men these days?
To me, it's just flat out disrespectful, tacky and bad manners. Whether or not it bothers you should probably take a backseat to how others might take it when out in public.
What if it was your 16, 17 or 18 year old kid? What if you and your wife are walking around the mall and you come across your son and a group of his friends and you hear your son dropping f-bombs and other obsenities while standing next to a family with young kids. Or worse yet, what if you didn't see them, but heard about it from one of their teachers/coaches/neighbors/ministers, etc.
I'd be embarrassed. I know I was raised to respect those around me and if words don't mean much to you, ask your wife or mom if she minds when girls are referred to as "bitches" or if she would mind if she was referred to as one...if it's just words.
I'm not saying I haven't let one slip hear and there, but usually I have a pretty decent grasp of who's around me and what may or may not offend someone.
Personally, it doesn't offend me when I hear this(though, there's not much that does offend me). While I wish the kids would have the respect to watch their mouths, it's not my job to be a parent and not my job to be an authoritative figure in that situation (not worth the risk these days either), but I do lose instant respect for these people and can't notice that others do the same. You see other people walking by shaking their head almost embarrased that these people don't realize how bad they are making themselves look.
The whole thing reminds me "A Christmas Story" when Ralphie drops the F-bomb in front of his dad while they're changing the tire. I guess the days of washing mouths out with soap are over.Comment

I'm not sure I was clear...I'm responding to the OP about the cussing 20 year olds and the others that don't have a problem with it....not sure what you are talking about. I think we are in agreeance on this one.Last edited by Trevytrev11; 05-06-2008, 10:41 AM.Comment

Re: What's wrong with young men these days?
I've always been one of those people that really don't see bad in words. There's no such things as a curse word to me its all about context. I don't really use the f word to say "**** you " to people to much, I use it more in other ways that isn't malicious, just another word. I just think there are alot of other things kids learn and see that are worse than words. To me words are just that, words nothing else, I put alot more stock in actions.Comment
