Different strokes for different folks, I guess...not worth it in my mind, ever, unless they were physically threatening my family. My life or the life of my family isn't worh it. I have no problem backing down or being "punked" by some kid over some vulgar language.

I hate that. Always let a sarcastic "you're welcome!" if they don't say anything.

The words that you use, and how you use them say everything about you. They make a statement about you and how the world is perceiving you. Yes you are constantly being judged by the world around you as you do to it. It's called survival. Command of language is power, misuse is weakness. It's a skill. Society will look at you and judge you by it amongst other things. I still can't believe when I see an email in my company that has blatant grammar and spelling errors. It reflects poorly on the person who wrote it.

We can talk all we want about how society shouldn't judge us for how we talk, etc. but it won't change anything. If you talk like you're in prison, you won't even get a counter job at McDonalds, nor should you because you don't even meet the minimum requirements.

"You want some mother ****in' fries with that" won't get you the job. I promise you.

what does the definition of class have to do with anything? seriously though if you really think about someone told you that cursing words were offensive, and you believed them. there is no legitimate reason why those words are offensive other than, "Because I said so".

i mean can anyone really give me a legitimate reason? how about saying this word can give you cancer, its spelled in a way to cause Armageddon, when blind people use braille for the word they get a paper cut, give me something.

as a matter of fact, ATTENTION OS COMMUNITY, from now on love is now a cursing word. it is vulger, crude, and shows your lack of class and intelligence with its use in an everyday manner. as a matter of fact i have lost some IQ points already from even having to mention it right now.(yeah i know your first thought from being people who like to attack those whose opinion you do not agree with is, "i didn't know you had IQ points to lose").

I hate agreeing with Vick here, but being fair you didn't answer the question. There is no reason other than some antiquated belief system as to why these words are "vulger [sic], crude and show your lack of class and intelligence". A word like F--- is just a word that because someone got their tailfeathers in a bunch generations ago is now seen as totally inappropriate. That is especially laughable considering the principles this country is founded on with the Bill of Rights. There is no intelligent reason that that word is taboo, it just is because people who get offended too easily say it is.

wow, thats exactly how i feel. when i get a kid im not going to censor him or anything like that but explain to him the ins and outs of the world and how he should not say this word or that word in public because apparently society thinks those words should not be said and get offended if someone says it just because someone else told them to get offended.

Anybody ever see the movie Idiocracy? This right here is the main problem with society in my opinion...a society that I deal with first hand day in and day out. Lack of parental supervision and upbringing. Just like the movie every generation the good people become a little more outnumbered. I wonder what my great grandkids will have to deal with.

I don't really get how what Vick and Massnole are saying is that crazy, but maybe that's because I basically agree with them. I understand and am fine with the fact that society has deemed certain words vulgar and that there are situations when certain words should not be used, but the concept of profanity is just funny to me. Saying crap or shoot instead of s*** usually means the same exact thing, yet one is considered profane and is bleeped out on television. I guess I just don't quite get it.

Vulgar, slang, or I, ate, a, cookie, for lunch, it doesn't matter. Someone at some point decided that's what this word would mean. Why should a vulgar word be any different?
