Obviously, could've been handled better and the cops are going to catch a lot of **** for this one. But the human side of me says these guys deserved it. Of course, the law doesn't allow this kind of justice but sometimes the emotions get the best of you.

Yea the beatdown was ridiculously excessive. Beating the hell out of those guys isn't going to bring back your friend.

You do what you have to and a little more to be safe but they went way overboard.

I'm actually thinking of becoming a police officer myself and I would not handle the situation like that.

you know for certain they are armed, you know for certain if they could reach the weapon they will use it, how exactly would you have handled the situation. especially knowing another officer was murdered 3-4 days before. your gonna pounce and if their arms move in any direction your gonna beat them till they cant move their arms.

I was under the impression that the cops surround the suspects with their squad cars, and take positions as not to be in direct line of sight for gunfire.. and then they tell them over the loudspeaker to come out with their hands above their heads and to get on the ground. Then the cops can apprehend them and simply arrest them.. giving the suspects the opportunity to show them that they will not fire at the cops. Is that not right?

Correct usually. That is your typical felony stop.

I just feel emotions and adrenaline took over, whether right or wrong...that's up to the individual.

It's easy for us all to Monday Morning Quarterback when we're not in involved in the situation.

True that hindsight is always a bit more clear, but that doesn't excuse them in my eyes. Do I honestly feel for the three suspects? No. I just view the cops' actions as over the top.

And that's fine, you totally have a right to your opinion and I respect that.

Like I said, could they have done better? Yes absolutely. I'm just scared to make a definite decision on it one way or another without knowing everything involved.

I think in a situation like this, people make rash determinations one way or the other without thinking about it or knowing everything...video is a powerful tool.

I don't see this as justification for their actions.

Cops are killed just as often here in NYC. That doesn't give any of them to reason to drop protocol and go buckwild to an extent.

I absolutely refuse to ever feel bad for three people that just shot a man down (assuming that is the correct background story in this scenario). I also believe that they deserved to get the ever living **** beat out of them... but in prison.

The police definitely got a bit carried away, but again, I can't exactly feel bad for what happened to the criminals. These cops may all face serious consequences for what they've done, and for good reason. Why not just taze the three guys, let them **** themselves, and throw on the cuffs? If the background story I've heard is correct, then these three were definitely serving some time... and they would be more than roughed up when they got behind bars. I understand it's human instinct to want to beat up three guys like this, but when you're the police, it's your place to act calmly and let justice do its job.

Police officers are there to protect and to serve. Our society is going to pot if we feel sorry for these thugs. I know that there are corrupt policemen and some go over the line, but just like any job people cross the line everywhere. I would much rather know that these thugs are getting there arses beat than roaming the streets free. I don't feel any sypmathy and in fact lets give these officers a raise. I guarantee if criminals new this is what awaited them when they got caught it would deter them a little.

That's one of my bigger complaints about the situation.

For everyone who says "see, this is what happens when you run from the cops", there are several others who see the situation as "this is why you run from the cops, because if they stop you, they're beating your ***."

Neither side is correct.

The way we see images will always depend on the side of the looking glass we are watching them thru....

Two wrongs doesnt make right... Cops do have the right to use as much force as needed to safely subdue a criminal, but its not thier job or right to take out thier stress, anger, frustration, or fear on a criminal (who is innocnet until proven guilty).

So lets hope your kids never get caught at the wrong place at the wrong time and makes a mistake or bad judgement when dealing with the police because lord knows that mistakes arent made by law enforcement.

No, I agree with you in this aspect. I just don't see how encouraging them to act this way on the job would solve anything.

It will just open up the opportunity for officers to take the law into their own hands. They are there to uphold the law but not take justice into their own hands.

That's why we have superhero movies. They do what most of us wish we could in our society.
