Re: Folks That Grew Up In "Rough Areas" aka Talkin Bout The Ghetto
I grew up in the Bushwick Projects in Brooklyn. It was rough, but it wasn't ultra-grimey like gunshots every night... Occasionally it would happen; a dude got killed on my floor once running from someone he had beef with... But it was just people living day t0 day... Even though I'm down here in North Carolina now, I still have love for the hood. I won't go back to live there, but when I go back to NY, I always go through, to kind of reconnect. It's funny how even though a lot of things have changed around there, I can still picture it how it was when I was growing up. What I really miss is buying monthly food stamps off the crackheads for like 10 bucks.Comment

Re: Folks That Grew Up In "Rough Areas" aka Talkin Bout The Ghetto
I respect anyone that came out of Cabrini Green Projects in Chicago; I saw an episode of Gangland on the History Channel yesterday, and it detailed how bad those projects were... Little kids catching stray bullets as these rival drug gangs shot at each other... Cops were getting shot by snipers, and even the EMS was getting shot at when they would come through to help someone who had been shot.... Bananas. And I thought Red Hook projects in Brooklyn was the worst ones I had ever heard of.Comment

I am kinda weird as i have lived in the one most affluent areas of philly, and I have lived on the outskirts of the ghetto as well. Knowing both obviously i would rather be in the affluent neighborhood. but those neighborhoods aren't without problems. You have to worry about brake-ins. Drugs can be a problem because the rich like to dabble in some illicit activity so to speak but don't want to travel into areas where you get that stuff. but if you got the money they come to you. You see a lot of stuff in your neighborhood. In the ghetto areas, all the same stuff goes on, except muggings are more likely. and its more out in the open. people don't go out of the way to try to hide their demons.Comment
