Once again, thank you everyone for your kind words and the stories of your own pets you've shared. I appreciate it. Those little guys become so much a part of the family that it's hard to lose them.

Sorry to hear that man. My dog is a member of the family. I can't imagine when something like that will happen to me.

It is tough. I have a eight year old basset hound and he have been my best friend since we got him around 4 months. My dad always has a thing for the runts of the litter, thus he took my dog "Dexter". Well...that little runt went from small to the biggest Basset hound our county vet had ever seen. Because of his short, stubby legs...he will have bad arthritis now or very soon. It also doesn't help that our former neighbor shot him in the chest with a .22. He still limps a little after three years but only after sleeping for a while.

I will definitely be crushed when he moves on which will probably be sooner than later. I doubt he will make it to 14 years with his back and bullet still lodged in his chest. He doesn't play much anymore but that is usually expected from basset hounds after 5/6 years. And my parents are moving to florida in the fall, so I am hoping they let me keep him up here until I am done student teaching. Well, I hope the pain leaves you soon Mud...I know it might be early but are thinking about a puppy anytime soon?

          Sorry
I had a dog twice when I was a little kid, but my mother got rid of them after about 2 weeks. She just couldn't stand dogs and that was it. But it's better for the dog to live where every1 likes him.

How did your dog get to be shot by your neighbor? That seems to be a little extreme.

That's really sad to hear. My family had to put our black lab, Daisy, down almost 4 years ago the day after Christmas. Worst Christmas ever. Her kidneys were slowly failing and the last week she spent on her bed moaning because the pain was so bad. It was hard to watch and listen to.
