Who was your high school rival?

For me it was Lincoln Southwest.

We pretty much had a run-in with Southwest every year during Football and Basketball. They were such cocky bastards.

I coach the freshman summer basketball team for my old high school and we had a scrimmage against Southwest today. We totally dominated them and it made me feel happy that I got to beat them again.

    So who was yours?

I went to a small private school called Lutheran South Academy... so our rival is Lutheran North. They pretty much beat us at most things though.

Shawnee Mission North. They were the first Shawnee Mission school, my school Shawnee Mission Northwest is the most recent, hence why both schools hated eachother.

Not only that, but Dr. Phil went there for his senior year. You can't like a school that had Dr. Phil as a student.

I went to a 3A HS in East Tx. Our biggest rivals were Van HS & Wills Point HS. I remember during a football game in Wills Point, a brawl actually broke out.

It was Norfolk Catholic, no question about it. The city of Norfolk is about 15 miles south of where I live(Pierce High). Played them in every sport every year. Becoming one of the most well known high school football rivalries in all of Nebraska.

          Dear old Nebraska U.
Where the girls are the fairest,
          The boys are the squarest,
Of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
          Where they're all true blue.
          We'll all stick together,
          In all kinds of weather,
          For Dear old Nebraska U!

Won't change this signature until Nebraska wins the National Championship...posted 8/16/05

In Alabama it was Grove Hill, Clarke County High School to be more accurate and Leroy from the next county over. Leroy was always the bigger of the two, or towns were side by side and the schools were constantly "stealing" players from each other. It 'd always get a little tv time too. The fields would be packed, loud, and if you were a player the adrenaline was rushing like nothing else. Good times, except for the inevitable fights post (and sometimes mid) game.

In Detroit though, it was Henry Ford high school. High school football definitely wasn't as big there as it was in Bama and it pretty much left a bad taste in my mouth. Even for this game people wouldn't get up for it. The bleachers would be about half full and that would be the biggest crowd we saw all year.

I went to Rice Memorial High School and we had two rivals. The first and probably our biggest rival was Burlington High School, that rivalry dated back to when Rice Memorial was Cathedral. The next rival who was definitely our football and lacrosse rival was South Burlington High School. As for schools who hated us, we were pretty much the Notre Dame of Vermont high school athletics.

I don't think we had just one. We (North Allegheny) were the top dogs so everyone was vying for us. Most of the guys on those opposing teams saw us as their biggest rival. If I had to name a team or two that was our biggest rival, it would be North Hills or Seneca Valley.

For my high school, it was Westboro High in football, St. John's High School for soccer and lacrosse.

For Fuquay-Varina, it was Middle Creek HS... MCHS opened up my freshman year, and basically split the FVHS students in half. We all knew each other, thus the reason for the rivalry.

Dematha High School. Too many NBA/Major Div I college players to name came out of there. Keith Bogans, Joe Forte & Brian Westbrook were there when we played against them.

Technically it was Stratford High School since that was the other high school in my town

Masuk was probably a bigger rivalry though, huge rivals in football, that carried over to other sports. They used to beat us all the time, a lot of the time keeping us out of states. Then my sophomore year we started sneaking into states but they'd usually knock us out. My junior year we finally beat them and now pretty much own them. Beat them 3 times last year once in the regular season, once in SWC's, once in the Championship.

Southview. Southview has the much better football team and has had one for a long time, so the football games are usually disappointments. Northview (my old school) owned virtually every other major sport, and has/had been a major hockey power in Ohio.

My girlfriend went to Southview, and since I wasn't as much into the whole NV sports deal, I went and sat with her and really didn't care. One year I sat with her NV won, and although I didn't say anything, I was happy (some friends were on the field for NV, so I never really rooted against them). The next year Southview won and my girlfriend wanted me to rush the field with her, I declined. I was happy in the sense that she would be happy, but that game was pretty frustrating (the student section was horrible, they were throwing milk containers filled with cash all night long... at their own fans). We did go to pretty much every game so I did root for them, just not much at all against Northview.

Now if this was Ohio State-Michigan, no way in hell I would wear maize and blue or sit in their student section.

Re: Who was your high school rival?

I went to Belle Vernon Area High School (the Leopards)... our big rival was a disrict over: Yough High School (the Cougars... and it's pronounced "Yock"). We were both AAA schools in Western PA when I was in high school.

There was a big ordeal my senior year when a couple of kids from my high school (whose identities remain a secret, believe it or not) spraypainted Yough's football field and surrounding track and stole a porcelain cougar from near their field. Their were police involved and everything.

Yough has since moved to AA in sports, and we remain at AAA, so we don't see them too often, but the rivalry is still there.

The worst part is that my mom teaches at my rival school. She's been there almost 25 years and graduated from my school. It's interesting/fun.
