So, any of you ever rode a bull?

I'm thinking about it. Actually, I am going to do it, but I am not sure when. There is a lot of things you need to take care of to get into a rodeo (buy "cards", get sanctions, etc...) and I am still getting a feel for it.

I may start riding Broncs first until I get the feel of being man handled. We'll see.

So, any of you guys ever done this before? Any tips? Any advice?

I rode one, once and only once when I was young ,in Mexico, in a small ranch town, with the Bulls horn extremely sharp, as far as advice, don't drink, hang on, and don't do it in Mexico.

That is some very good advice. I think I'll definitely lay off of the booze (before the ride), and no, nothing in Mexico for me.

Rode all through high school and a few years past that.

My advice, ride a barrell first or as "girly" as it may sound, ride a mechanical bull first. Both of these will allow you to understand the balance thats needed to successfully ride. Also, know matter what anyone tells you, and some will most likely try and convince you to do this, never ride with a "suicide" grip. I've seen plenty of friends get banged up pretty severely by riding like this.

Also, before you actually ride, you need to learn how to fall and "scramble". Have someone help you out mimmicking you falling off the bull and him chasing you. If possible, do this inside a rodeo arena, so that you get a feel of where the fences are when you fall from various positions.

I rode a mechanical bull once, but I had slacks on and it was way too slick to stay on. I lasted only a few seconds.

Never have, don't have the balls to do it but I do know someone that rode them in South Dakota for awhile and was actually on one of those 'can you believe it' tv shows where him and his father both were stepped on the face.

My advice.. don't do it.
