so my girlfriend came over last night and said she wanted to talk. no biggie i thought maybe she just had something on her mind. boy did she. she told me that: 1. she just wants to be single for a while and 2. she feels like when she's with me she can't do all the things she wants to do (for instance, she joined a sorority this year and said she feels like if she wanted to go to the clubs i'd be mad? mad? no... taken back? probably. it would catch me off guard but i don't think i'd have to big of a problem with it.. i'd probably even go a time or two) anyways... this whole thing is killin me. i think a big part of the problem is that we've been dating for almost 3 years now (would be 3 in september) and i think we both sort of took it for granted. we never really went on "dates" anymore with just the two of us and i don't think we really showed each other just how much we still loved each other. i think we both talked openly about getting married one day and the type(s) of houses we'd like and blah blah blah that i think we just sort of took it all for granted. i still believe she's absolutely the one for me as we had everything in common. everything. it seemed like from the get go i could just predict if she would or wouldn't like something or what she would think in a certain situation, etc. i mean.. she didn't completely rule out a get-back-together.. she did say that her aunt and uncle started dating about the same age and took a "break" after a couple years but ended up getting back together and eventually married so it is possible and it is in the back of her mind...

reason i'm posting this is not for any sympathy (cause that won't help but will probably just make it worse if anything) but to see if anyone here has been through this? and if so did it work out? what steps did you take? i'm just afraid to call real soon because i want to give her the space she wants but i'm also afraid to stay away too far or too long because i don't want her to think i don't care. and once we get in contact what do i do? just talk on the phone the first few times and then move up to asking if she wants to go to lunch or what do you think?

I love threads like these, listen VERY CAREFULLY. You guys are college age, way too young to be settling down. I'm just gonna lay it straight on you, she wants to date other guys. No matter what reason she gives you she want's to experience other people, for better or worse. I've been there down that, it's obvious to me. Break up with her otherwise you're just gonna get hurt. Hopefully she hasn't cheated on you yet, but if you try to keep it together, it'll happen or she'll straight up dump you, then go sleep with the guy cause it wouldn't be cheating (in her head). Seriously dude get rid of her it might hurt at first, but you'll thank me later. You don't want her to be unfaithful, that'll hurt far worse.

Been there and done that, and trust me the sorority is going to corrupt her good. So here are some easy steps to help you get over her.

1. Let her go, take the break and ignore her for at least 2 weeks. And when you do get calls, be busy all the time.

2. Rebound with someone who is hotter than her x2. In other words rebound with more than one woman. Keep them as friends who listen, but let her think ya'll are dating.

3. Rebound physically with at least 1 of those female friends and express it publicly the word will get back to her.

Three easy steps to help your feelings get over her, and to teach her a lesson, there are definitely more fish in the sea.

And you got monster bait. lol.

It works and you'll thank me later.

In my opinion, he doesn't even have to do all that, re: rebound... A lot of times, all these broads are trying to do is get a reaction. The last thing a chick wants to be is IRRELEVANT. He could just hang with his homeboys, game at random chicks, and not give his old piece any thought whatsoever. Had I been in his situation, my response to the "break" request would have been a flat "OK". She was looking for a reaction outta the OP. Anything about "let's work it out" or "what did I do wrong" would just let her know that whenever she got tired of the next man, she could always come home to the OP. She controls the situation. If OP leaves it be, either she'd be wondering why he didn't pursue any further information, or she'd be thinking that he's already been gutting on the side, or planning to. But she can't say anything because if she cared, she wouldn't be requesting the "break" in the first place.... OP maintains control.

we'll see how it all works out. we went out to lunch yesterday and talked about everything and what not.
i just don't know if i trust in what she said she's been doing since the "break"... so that's holding up my feelings on whether i want to even pursue this or not

you misunderstand what a woman means by break. Its actually quite straight forward. A "break" means she is trying to break you. She is toying with emotions, and breaking what ever dignity you had before the break. She wants to leave you a broken man, who will have issues and need to see a therapist. Don't let this happen to you. Cut all ties, it's for your own good. No other chick is gonna want a guy with mental issues cuz some past chick ****ed his head all up.

It was over weeks before she told you she wanted a break but she waited for a reason. If she would have told you then "i'm thinking of taking a break" you could have gone out and had some prospects lined up already.

But she waited till she found whoever she was interested in, see if he was interested in her. NOW she wants to announce the break.


The lesson here is always have somebody on standby, you dont have to cheat or anything. But stay close enough to a few females that you could opt out and pursue free agency at anytime.

I think you get the point but "I need a break" + joining a sorority means she wants to bang other dudes and get away with it.

Just have her introduce you to some of her sorority sisters before you end it!
