Meh, kind of. Especially if you know how to type the correct way.

It isn't that big of a deal for me, except when some dudes go overboard with it.

I always try to type my posts in correct english. On instant messenger and whatnot, not so much, but here where I'm putting thought into my posts, I like to make it so everyone can understand it. That said, I think it does take a little bit away from a post if it's ridiculously abbreviated and incorrectly spelled. Some stuff, whatever, but the majority? That's not so good.

Well I do worry a little bit if it's a reflection of how the poster speaks in person but no, it doesn't bother me too much so long as I understand the gist of the message.

I always try to type my posts in correct english. On instant messenger and whatnot, not so much, but here where I'm putting thought into my posts, I like to make it so everyone can understand it. When I first came to OS I didn't see the big deal with not speaking properly, but being here for years I see what a difference it makes. I mean, some people are already not paying you any mind because of your post count, and then on top of that your response is not worded correctly, I mean, I just wanted to know what other guys thought as well. I hope some mods post their thoughts too.

I'm with you. I'll make the occasional typo or grammatical mistake, but trying to read some posts are just horrifying.

Yeah, I make grammatical/spelling errors that are minor but it's pretty bad when someone comes in here and types more or less gibberish. I don't know if the whole datcrunk thing was a complete joke from the start but that guy got blasted almost from day one then again, aside from the "street slang" typing the content was pretty silly too.

I write pretty well, at least on a paper I do, but typing is a different story. The thing is grammar can be funny. I would like to see just how many grammatical mistakes we make, I know I make a lot and I am teacher. The English languages is pretty jacked up. I been taking classes on "phonics" and "blending words". Man, you talk about some weird grammar rules. No wonder the English language is one of the hardest to learn.

Sage - Sometimes it annoys the heck out of me. Other times, I just laugh it off. I even get annoyed with people who don't use capital letters and punctuation in text messages, so I may be a little over-the-top in that regard.

My favorites are the first time posters who have one gigantic paragraph that is an essay about how they hate such and such game. Sound familiar lately?

It does bother me to an extent, but as long as I can attempt to make some sense of the post it doesn't drive me insane.

LOL, first off. Second, I agree with you on how people look. I usually believe that intelligence does come through how you type online, even though some people disagree. But if you type that, it's a good flag for me to remember not to deal with you, because you're obviously an idiot. As I refuse to believe the school systems in America fail children that much, the only reason for it is because you're actively being an idiot because you're on the internet.

If I see giant walls of text, an over abundance of exclamation points, and general punctuation disuse in other areas, I skip it altogether. If I am in the right mood, I'll even take the time to put them on my ignore list, just so my time won't be wasted again.


As for slang, I generally don't mind. However if I see a post where it's used way too much, I cringe a little, especially if it's hip hop slang.

It's great to know how some of you guys feel on this topic. I also hate when posters have 1 long run-on paragraph without any spaces. Spelling is a different story, thank god for Firefox :wink:.
