I wouldn't ever want anyone messing around with my plumbing.

Re: Anyone Had A Vasectomy?
I'm in sports medicine/interventional pain management, but I've performed them before as a resident. A previous poster was correct, you are usually in pain for a couple of days, but it varies from person to person, doctor to doctor. It can be done in the clinic. They can be reversed, but some reversals are not successful, so keep that in mind. Your doctor should counsel you on all of this.
I had no interest in children either in my 20s and was dead set against having any. I had my first child in 2004 after 10 years of marriage since I changed my mind about having kids. I love my 3 year old daughter very much, and can't believe I didn't want kids now. Something to consider. I would recommend another form of birth control until you are older, but to each their own.Comment

Re: Anyone Had A Vasectomy?
There are three guys I work with that have had it done. They are all between the ages of 35-40 and have at least two kids. One guy's wife just had twins in Jan. '07, which gave him 4 kids, and he had it snipped not long after that. I don't think I could ever have that done. Like Matrix said, not sure if I want anyone messing around with the plumbing like that.MLB: Cincinnati Reds
NFL: Cincinnati Bengals
NCAA Hoops: Xavier Musketeers
NCAA Football: Miami Hurricanes
NHL: Calgary Flames

Re: Anyone Had A Vasectomy?
All I can tell you is that your views of life when you are in you 30's may be a lot different than when you are in your 20's.
But then again, there is nothing worse than someone who doesn't want kids, actually ending up with them.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Anyone Had A Vasectomy?
I like how only one person actually answered his question and everyone else just wanted to disagree.
He didn't ask how you guys felt about it. He wanted to know who has had it done and their experience in it.
Man, I've been angry a lot lately."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Anyone Had A Vasectomy?
I don't really think that everyone was wanting to disagree. I believe that they were trying to make him think about things before making such a drastic decision. I'm sure that we've all made some decisions we wish that we could go back and change in life and maybe when we made those decisions we didn't have anyone to discuss them with beforehand. In my opinion, it's nice to have guys that seemingly care enough to offer advice, rather than just answering the question.Comment

Re: Anyone Had A Vasectomy?
Absolutely unnecessary to fear this procedure. I didn't even go in the hospital. It was done in the doctor's office and I left within the hour. One little tube is snipped, that's it.
Macho shouldn't be a determination. This interferes with nothing. Nice to be able to have sex without worrying about unintended consequences. This is probably one of the most simple medical procedures that there is.Comment

Re: Anyone Had A Vasectomy?
The thought of having a child when I don't one is a terrible thing for me to imagine. Sure I'd love him/her, but that's a lifetime of responsibility that I want no part of. Having kids isn't some sort of achievement, it's simply a result of two people having sex. The truth of the matter is that I've put more thought into a vasectomy than the majority of people do prior to getting pregnant. A man's only options to remaining child free are condoms are a vasectomy. How many men out there have worn a condom only to hear, "we're having a baby." That's not going to be me.
People have called me selfish because I'd be depriving my future wife of the ability to bear my children. Well for me to truly fall for any woman she'd have to share my same views on this matter. This is something that I'll let future women know very early in our relationships. No need in sticking around if you want kids because it's not going to happen with me.
Thanks for the information, Jim. You have definitely answered my questions.Comment
