Sad story, but listen now and listen good.
That kind of dough can be blown and blown FAST, time to get MEGA CONSERVATIVE with it.
ZERO RISK investments, Government CD's, etc. An annuity you can live off of without spending prinicple. Church, charity, relatives, etc. absolute MINIMUM, what you would contribute if you made 30K. You're not getting 6 Mil a year.
Nothing wrong with buying a modest home in cash and doing with the rest what I mentioned above.
People have blown MUCH MORE than what you're getting, as a matter of fact people who have never had that kind of money are more likely to lose it than they are to keep it.
Give yourself and your family a TRULY happy ending. You may have to piss some people off, too bad, you are not rich. You have enough for a good life for you and your kids, not enough for an extravagant lifestyle.
Here's your first test:
Can I borrow 100K for you to be a partner in my new business? I have a professional business plan in a recession proof industry.Comment

And here's some more advice. Everytime you use that money, remember how you got it and why. If you don't you might start focusing more that you got the money and that the doctor gets the fall for it than what you actually lost to get there. You should ALWAYS remember why you got that money no matter what.My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment

But yeah...make sure your kids are taken care of. You probably want to hire a financial advisor...someone you trust that can help you get the most out of the money. $6 million ain't what it used to be.
Oh...and donate $20 to OS so you can get the kick *** blue name and a custom avatar!Comment

BJowers,
Congrats man, I know we have talked about what happened in pm's before brother. I am really happy for you and your family. I know the money will never fill the void, but to know that you can take care of the church, and that your two other kids will never want or need for anything....is a pretty nice gig.
Yeah, and what TJ said, donate that $20 so your name will be in Cubbie blueLast edited by bluengold34_OS; 08-30-2008, 09:40 AM.Twitch - bluengold34_osComment

Re: My Prayers Have Been Answerd
I was going to bury half of it in a tin can in the back yard and go to the dog track and bet the other half on the dog that does his buisness before the race. lol just kidding I have several financial advisors to help me along the way but thanks for the advice“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

By the way, you can now afford to buy tickets to every Cubs Playoff and World Series tickets, and still have about $300 left over.:wink:Twitch - bluengold34_osComment

Re: My Prayers Have Been Answerd
Since it seems we're all giving advice, I'll throw some out there as well. Put away $500,000 for your kids' college funds. They probably won't need that much (but they may, depending on the school). Whatever is left over once that day rolls around, throw it in a Roth IRA and tell your kids that they can take it out AFTER GRADUATING COLLEGE.
Sorry to hear what happened bjowers, I know a child can't be replaced. But try and enjoy your money if you can.Comment

Re: My Prayers Have Been Answerd
Invest wisely, maybe set up something in your daughter's name, but like everyone else said, invest wisely. I would strongly advise against an annuity. There are plenty of options to you and your family that will secure your financial future for life.
The money im sure is a consolation prize at this point, but use it to honor your little girl's legacy the best you canCheck out my Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFM Thread.
You too can be a 5* recruit at FSU.......
