I had ACL surgery done on Friday and I'm glad I didn't know how bad the pain would be afterward or I wouldn't have had the surgery done.

just wait until you start rehabbing it.. lol

Don't worry man it gets better, just be patient and take the pills as needed. Doing that and lots of ice helps, well at least it did for me. After the first 4 or 5 days though the pain lessened a bit, though I was on the pain pills forever, that freaking percocet is a bad MFer of a painkiller. The limping around for almost 2 months after the surgery is what killed me the most.

I despised my rehab because the trainer had to bend my knee so I could get my flexibility back. Right after surgery I couldn't even put my foot on a gas pedal.

You're right on with the Percocet. That stuff is killer, though it has a tendency to just make me go to sleep.

I had the patella tendon graft done and it takes just about everything I have to lift my leg up vertically.

The Percs never had that effect on me though everyone is different. It takes time but the pain will slowly subside, just do everything the Dr. and the rehab people tell you. It took me a little over 15 months to get back to snowboarding after my surgery and I have to wear a $1000 knee brace to do it but it's well worth it when I can hit a 360 with a grab and not worry about my knee on the landing. Good luck with your rehab, it seems like torture sometimes but in the end it's all for your benefit.

Lemme join in on the knee surgery train. I've had both knees operated on and the rehab and the therapist bending it was the worst part. It felt like she was just ripping my entire knee up everytime she bent it. Fortunately or unfortuantely depending on how you look at it, my little brother accidently fell on me while I had my leg bent a little and it bent it all the way back. No more need for rehab as that broke up all the scar tissue. It was very painful at the time, but the next day I had full flexibility.

The pain meds are very scary to me. Now that I'm a prosecutor I see so many people getting hooked on these and buying and selling them. If I ever have any injuries that require strong pain meds, I always tell the Doc I don't want percocet, or hydrocodone or lorocet or anything else. I just rather hurt than get addicted those pills. So many people's lives are ruined by those that I don't think it's worth it. I've never had a problem, even with the pain meds they gave me after my surgery, but why take a risk if I don't need to.

Good luck with the scope. The only problem I have now is a popping when I bend over to get my golf ball out of the hole or walking up stairs, along with some arthritis, but nothing some Aleve won't clear up if it gets too stiff.(that's what she said)

It certainly is bad but c'mon now.... you sound like Mrs. Brandon13.

It will get better... the biggest pain was probably the anesthesia, right? Getting that out of my system was rough. I think I threw up a lung; Couldn't hold any sort of food down.

Damn this knee surgery stuff sounds like no joke. I guess it shows the dedication of people (athletes especially), with all that pain you have to go through just to get back to where you were.

The pain im most worried about its serious burns

its really not the physical pain that gets me, i can tolerate that.. it more of a mental thing with me, just thinking that im not gonna be able to actually do the things i want to do as well as i did before the whole knee thing..

The mental part kills me. My left knee and ankle are in bad shape. I tore ligaments in my ankle on 2 seperate occasions. I know for a fact that there is something torn in my left knee but I've been chalking it up to tendonitis.

In the back of my mind I know I'm 1 akward landing away from being out for a long time.

Lifting the leg vertically is that hardest thing to do after surgery. I could lift my leg fine for the most part the day of the surgery and a little the next day. After that though, I could move it. I had a brace on that had a big metal piece connecting on each side of the knee that I had to use to pull my leg up to move. I guess after the first day, the good drugs from the surgery wore off.

Yeah the night after surgery is a huge false positive, I was able to walk around on the crutches that 1st night with little discomfort. That next morning was a rude awakening, all those great heavy drugs that were pumped into the IV had worn off. Though as far as long lasting pain and discomfort I will say my shoulder is way worse. It's been almost 3 months and I still can't work and can't sleep, though I'm hoping with the step up in physical therapy that I'll be back at work the end of this month or the 1st of November.

I threw up at some point after getting the anesthesia, but I only remember sitting up and one of the nurses saying my name, and I was back asleep.

And hey, this **** sucks. The pain is starting to die down a little, though.

yes it really does suck ***... this would be the third surgery on my knee, the first two were basically for the same thing, i was suppose to have arthroscope surgery the first time in Jan. but something messed up, so i had to rehab it just enuff to be able to have another surgery toward the end of Feb... that one was a Graft though... and now here i am after 7 moths of therapy getting a scope done on it for them to basically tell me when i wake up it is messed up somehow and i will be required another surgery probably a month or so later.. damn this sucks i just want this **** to be over with and have a stable knee again..
