Re: first time flying
It should go smoothly. I love flying though I don't do it often. In fact I'd encourage you to look down. It's so cool seeing the cities below in grid form instead of regular stuff. First thing to expect though is HEAVY security. Get there early. My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648 -
Re: first time flying
Do a search, there were 1 or 2 posts about this before and should have all the info for you.
Most planes are flown with auto pilot now and can take off, land, and some even taxi into the gate. The pilots rarely do anything other than check stuff out. I fly every week and usually don't pay attention to anything. Just relax, listen to some music, and remember you are more likely to die in a car crash than in a plane crash.Comment

Re: first time flying
Don't worry, you'll be fine. Flying is really safe, especially if you're flying commercially. Get there early, and if you aren't going to be there long try to get everything into a carry on, it makes everything so much easier and quicker.WUSTLComment

Re: first time flying
Oh and also if you get scared easily when planes start to go down avoid prop planes and small jets. Those things fly pretty wild when they hit turbulence. They drop fast. They hardly ever crash though. My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment

You'll be fine. I consider my self pretty knowledgeable about aircraft, and in the US we almost rarely have a major commercial accident. Aircrafts are a lot safer than cars, so don't be worried.Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, Arsenal FC, Wildcats, Vols

Airplanes are statistically 17 times safer than cars. No need to fear!Comment

Re: first time flying
Here's a great stat I read awhile back, and while I'm not sure it's 100% true, it's probably pretty close.
"Part 121 operations (Which is what you'll be flying) has held steady around .015 per 100,000 flight hours.
To put that number in perspective: A kid born today could spend every second of their life on board US airliners in flight and still have only a one in ten chance of being killed in a plane crash by the time they reach age 75."
Let that sink in a little bit. I don't know if it will help you, and I hope it does, but it's helped other people I know.Comment

Re: first time flying
But like someone mentioned, get there at LEAST 2 hours before you take off time.
As a side note, I took my mom to the Detroit Metro Airport last week and Miguel Cabrera was in line next to us. That was pretty cool.Gamertags

Just remember, it's not the flying that's scary... it's the crashing.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: first time flying
That "17 times safer" number he quoted deals just with fatalities. Whether or not your almost guaranteed to die in an aircraft crash has nothing to do with it.
EDIT: I should add, that's what I'm assuming based on the numbers I've seen in the past. I don't know for sure if that's what he's talking about, but it's close.Last edited by Chaos81; 10-11-2008, 10:24 PM.Comment
