It's 98 degrees right now, though with a dew point of 53, the heat index is "only" 96. Still, we're three degrees off today's record high of 101 degrees and five degrees off Greensboro's all-time record high of 103 set back in 1988. On the other hand, we're a far cry from our all-time record low of -8 degrees set back on the famed "coldest day" in 1985.

Yikes, Mt. Mitchell got down to -34 that day!

Yesterday, while we were baking in the upper 90s here in the Piedmont of NC, the Eastern USA's highest mountain, Mt. Mitchell, was enjoying temperatures in the upper 50s. That would have felt good!

Well last week we had that heat you guys are getting in the east right now. Broke records hitting the upper 90s. Heat indexes well above 100.
This week, on the other hand, has been perfect with high temps in the mid 70s, and lows in the 50s.

92 and climbing........before the sunsets we might make it up to 95 or 96. Just an hour ago it was 89 degrees.

I'm guessing you just found this out and thought it was cool? Otherwise, I don't see the relevance in a hot June day compared to a cold January day.

Try living up here. 80s, 90s in the summer, -50s,-60s in the winter. Most extreme climate in the US, thank you very much.

93 degrees as of 830 this morning but I did hear that they're calling for rain today here so hopefully that'll help out some.

Re: So what's the weather like where you live?

I'm not so sure about all this global warming anymore. Sure, there's a process and something going on...but all this warming isn't what it seems. I bet it's like a cycle - every several decades there's a heat wave and then back to "normal". I'm surprised almost every time when I find out that the records for the hottest days around here were in the 1940's-1960's. It's like the same thing happened 50 years ago.
Try to find the hottest days in history in your area and I'm pretty sure you'll find that many of them happened 50 years ago. That can be an interesting thing to check...

OK, so I checked for the highest temperatures record here, and found out that it happened on July 1936. And it was the same for North Dakota. I also found out that on February 2007 we had here the lowest temperatures in 31 years. In other words, it happnes every several decades. It happened before and will happen again - same for hot days and cold days.

I can't believe i'm saying this but I hope it rains tomorrow like they're predicting because it's so friggin hot. I was just outside to check the mail and I literally was struggling to breathe.

It's THAT bad out there right now.

Just started pouring here, which I am glad because it is 89 and humid as hell. Hopefully it will rain for some hours to suck the moisture out of the air.

I've known about it and decided to bring it up to help take my mind off the heat!

It's so freaking hot that I've got the air conditioning running full-blast and it's still in the upper 70s in the house!

I wouldn't mind if it would rain sometime soon, either. The last time we had measurable rainfall here was June 16th. The grass outside is all going dormant. While this looks bad, I don't mind it too much as it means that I don't have to cut the grass.
