Apart from having the best weather yesterday in months today is the same as it's been since last month, nothing but cold wind
Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather.

Ended up with close to 4 inches of snow here.

Roads are an absolute mess though. All schools are already canceled for tomorrow.

I love reading about schools being closed for 4 inches of snow.

You guys probably would've been given the entire month off if you had the snow we did in January.

Probably. Atleast you guys have a plan for snow removal. We have nothing.

Not to mention, it's not so much the snow that they're getting out for but the fact that the bottom layer turned to ice and we're not supposed to get above freezing til Friday afternoon. Most roads are just an ice rink right now.

A lot of these places have no snow removal equipment or very little. As a result, there is all kinds of ice on the road due to limited salt use and, as a result, our roads after 4" of snow are probably worse than yours after a foot (at least snow is actually drivable and you all have so many snow plows to clear most of the roads).

When Raleigh got 24" of snow on 1/25-1/26, 2000 it did a pretty good job at shutting things down from what I recall. Given the fact that no neighborhood roads get plowed here for at least the first few days after a storm, a lot of people couldn't even get out of their neighborhood. The interstates were probably clear the next day, but not so for most of the roads. I think school was out all week for that one.

Last January we got 7" of snow and the snow got hard-packed on even the main roads and lasted for several days, turning the primary and especially the secondary roads into a de facto ice rink. The interstate was relatively clear, though. I think the snow finally melted off our neighborhood road about six days later.

And we have a ton more snow removal equipment here than we used to and have a lot more than most of the South (I think Atlanta has eight snow plows in a city of four-million, or something like that).

As I've said before, you all can laugh at the reaction to snow; we'll laugh when you all bitch and moan about 90-degree weather because that's the way it is ALL SUMMER LONG down here! And that's why I want to move up north to get away from it! Summers are awful here.

Still a few inches of snow on the ground, this morning.

It's a dry snow, so it's no big deal to drive in.. usually there's more ice involved.

and yes.. summer in the south can be HOT

90 degrees here typically feels warmer than 100 in Arizona. The humidity is the worst part about it.

Supposed to get a little break next week, but I'd gladly take anything you can offer. Anything might be better than the current temps.

I wouldn't be able to survive southern california weather year round. I need my snow, cold weather and severe thunderstorms. However, I imagine I'm in the minority.

I'm the same way. I love living in the South because I get all four seasons. Severe weather, beautiful falls, snow, cold, etc.

Only downside, as AUChase already mentioned, is the humidity. Never in my life should I have experienced a heat index of 124 this past summer.
