Was just coming here to tell you that it looks like things might be getting interesting in our neck off the woods. A lot is still uncertain (as usual) but I'm hoping to at least be on the western edge of this storm. I'm about 45 min west of Raleigh. A little wiggle to the west and we're nearly in the middle of it but a little wiggle to the east and nothing. Reading stuff on the NOAA site they're saying we could have watches issued as early as Monday morning. Only time wil tell but temps will be perfect and ground temps should still be fairly low even though today and tomorrow will be a little warmer.

It's going to be close out here. Raleigh looks good, IMO. I think you and I might be on the cusp of 12", but could easily get nothing. The cutoff between a lot of snow and cold and dry is very sharp.

It's going to be cold, in any case. Snow with temperatures in the teens is something we haven't seen in years here.

As of 6:30am winter storm watches have been issued for areas of North Carolina from about the I-95 corridor east. That includes wake county but doesn't include my county (chatham co, yet). I would imagine they are waiting a bit for some more model runs before at least a winter weather advisory is issued for my county or adding us to the watch. Will be an interesting next 48 hrs.

The western part of the US is the warm spot.

Weatherman last night said Fairbanks was close to 50 last week and has had numerous readings above 30 this January. Billings, MT was in the middle 40's and the drought continues there.

10 day outlook here included no temperatures above 30 degrees. Polar Vortex 2 hitting tonight, close to -20 below 0 without WC, up to -45 below WC tonight.

School is closed today in the district and I'll guarantee a closing tomorrow. That makes it three less days for summer vacation in this district.

Edit- School was cancelled for tomorrow before 9:00am.

Atlanta has a Winter Storm Watch now. My forecast now has ~1 inch of snow. Just yesterday they were saying everything would be south of Atlanta.

Just picked up 100 kgs of Road Salt. Forecast is calling for a lot of rain followed by a Flash Freeze. It is going to be slippery as heck.

Coldest winter ever, and the heat in my building isn't very strong, struggling to keep the inside temp above 60

60 degrees right now. Now tomorrow is supposed to be a different beast. 5-8 plus inches if snow. Yes!!!!!!!

Well that escalated quickly. We went from nothing, to a winter storm warning and expecting 3-6 inches of snow with the heaviest snow between 3pm tue and 3am wed. Should be interesting to see if this holds true

Pretty much the entire city of Syracuse lost power a couple nights ago when the windchill was somewhere around -30. That was fun. Also, the apartments that I live in you have to electronically scan your way in, so we had to leave one of us in the room at all times so that we could let everyone else back into the apartment.

I've lived in Upstate NY my entire life, and these past couple weeks have been among the coldest I've ever experienced.
