**** like this is why I don't frequent many forums anymore outside of OS.

As message boards become more popular and more individuals "feel" they can remain anonymous, people somehow forget there is no real blur between your true self and your "internet" self.

This was a real human being with real emotions and feelings. All you see in that thread is "did you die already" or "**** just got real!" Like it's a freakin' game to them.

People watched this **** for 6 hours. Their mods didn't even attempt to do anything. We're not all freakin' strangers here. The guy was on the site for 2 damn years....

Bunch of damn idiots out there. I swear.

Whole thing is just really sad... Suicides always bug me, but seeing all those people egging him on in that thread is too much... the internet is strange.

EDIT: And at the same time, I'm a member of another forum where the owner of the forum (Sage Francis, a rapper that many of you know) personally made calls to the Chicago police about this guy who wasn't answering his phone/door (his friend posted). Two other people in the area stopped by his house to check on him and got no answer as well, which prompted Sage and another guy to coordinate an effort to figure out what happened with the police, who eventually got entry.

Anyway, the guy was apparently having some big-time mental issues and ended up going to a mental health facility for a few weeks.. he posted on the forum afterwards thanking everyone for their concern and said that they may have saved his life. That forum has also coordinated benefit shows for cancer victims, etc... there's a lot of good that can be done via the internet as well..

Honestly, does anyone remember that guy on the 2kforums who was doing 'ice' and he was talking about doing terrible things to this kid so the mods got involved and called the cops?

Btw, how would OS handle a similar situation on these forums? Would you notify the police?

I thought the same exact thing as I went through that thread. It just makes me sick to my stomach. And go there now. Those f'ing a-holes are STILL joking about it. Still!

Anyway...we know nothing like that would ever happen here in our happy little corner of the internet. I just can't imagine that one of us wouldn't notify the authorities sooner if we were ever worried about the well being of a fellow OS'er.

Yeah I remember when Pdiddy (I think it was) was missing for a while. There was an actual thread wondering if he was alright and there was genuine concern for him.

I also watched the video from your link TJ and that was bone chilling and disturbing. I can't believe those people are still yukking it up over this. I guess some people have no heart or feelings.

I wouldn't write "nothing like that would happen here" because we can't stop people from committing suicide... and I know that's not what you meant, but I still wanted to make that clear.

Saying "he's done it before" pisses me off because it should have been dealt with before. You're going to pull that sort of **** here? NO. Go tell the person to get help and ban his username if he doesn't oblige. Disallow him from seeing the forums temporarily. Don't allow him to be a freakin' sideshow for the night and stand by with your thumbs up your *** as it happens.

But I'm not surprised it happened there. Look at the other idiocy they tolerate there.

In case you can't tell by now, this sort of thing pisses me off. I think we should enjoy our time here when discussing games and such since there are more important things in this world... but when "**** gets real," as you'd say, you have to do something about it.

Worse thing that happens is you call the police and they find out this guy is playing a joke and he gets dealt with accordingly. What are the police going to do to you for alerting them of a possible situation? That's what they get paid for.

People commit suicide every minute, this guy just decided to broadcast it over the internet for some reason.

And he posted it on a site that is known for having total deuchbags all over it.

I think if he tried that here the cops would have been there much sooner.
