Re: Proper Gym Etiquette
Personally I couldn't stand to be sitting at my desk all sweaty trying to cool down for the next 30 minutes dripping all over my keyboard...we have three showers, each one is curtained off twice (a changing area is inbetween), so I don't see the big deal.
Also person c) kind of bothers me. They are the ones that come in for 5 mintues, throw up a few sets of bench and then leave.Comment

Re: Proper Gym Etiquette
Reminds me of when I was young, maybe 9 years old and had my first "old man powdering his balls" experience at the local athletic club. I remember it like it was yesterday...an old, fat, wrinkly man standing on the floor with one leg up on a bench kind of bent over and powdering his junk...my buddy was in there before me and said he had previously used the hair dryer on them....still haunts me.Comment

Re: Proper Gym Etiquette
Lol I fall under that YMCA tradition. No way of avoiding it to get to the pool and I remember the first time like it was yesterdayAaron

But no, it wasn't a YMCA, just a local athletic/tennis club.Comment

Re: Proper Gym Etiquette
I got that experience in the hockey arena. Where I used to play, there were four dressing rooms. So when you'd get there 45 minutes before the game, the teams on the ice had two of the rooms, and usually the two teams that had played before hadn't finished changing yet. So one day I go into check, and I guess the oldtimers league was there, because there were just 18 naked old men standing around in the room. I was like 9 at the time...I never recovered.Blue Jays, Blackhawks, AuburnComment

Re: Proper Gym Etiquette
This thread started to take a turn for the worse when KG brought up the locker nonsense. That would be a whole other topic.
Stew, I have noticed everything on your list, but I can say the only ones that really bug me are the ones that affect me like wiping down the machines and retuning benches. I'm there with an IPod and am pretty focused on what I need to get done so I can block out the majority of nonsense.
I will admit that I probably do a fair amount of talking (after/before the workout). I've been at the same club for over 10 years and know a lot of people there, but when the headphones go on it's lights out.
Trev, number 1 on your list is my second biggest pet peeve in the gym.
My biggest pet peeve are the lazy ***** who throw 7 plates a side on the leg press and refuse to break it down. Not only do the a-holes not know the definition of range of motion and it's effects, they monopolize the majority of the plates on that side of the room. I usually end up helping some woman break the whole thing down.
Oh, and stop dropping weights all over the place as if you're in an Olympic event! Especially while your 145lb stiff legged deadlifts hardly qualify.
I have been waiting for 5 years to catch someone leaving the plates on the press because I would love to call them out on it. Something along the lines of I'll bet your place looks like s*** considering you're not cleaning this up.Last edited by therizing02; 12-04-2008, 04:53 PM.Comment

Re: Proper Gym Etiquette
Talking was directed at during your workout, more specifically, when you're using a machine.
Most of the problems stem from groups of 3 guys who think they're hot ****. They bench 4 days a week and have gotten good at it. However they neglect eating right and cardio so they're fat with muscular chests.
I'd say 40% of the males at my gym fall into this category.
Oh and do you guys ever catch the person who has no idea what they're doing on lat pulldowns? They sit there with about 10 lbs on the machine and do it in ways were never meant. HahahaComment

Re: Proper Gym Etiquette
Can't stand the people who use one machine for 20 minutes and they do 3 sets that whole time.
That's the only one that really bothers me, some of the other things listed can be kind of annoying, but I can't stand having to stand around 10 minutes doing nothing because people are wasting time on machines.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment
