Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?

When I don't ball for a while, I don't like playing full court games because I need to get my lungs back. I play pretty hard, so I have to make sure my endurance is on point. I find that a couple of days of playing hard games of 21 does the trick.

I wish I was in Charlotte, I'd get up with some of you guys. I'd like to see how nice some of you are. I'm 6'3, 215, great handles, sick jumper from anywhere, and very explosive. I think I'm a hard matchup because I'm constantly moving on offense and play harrassing D. I usually end up wearing out whoever is on me. I'll bully smaller defenders and blow past bigger guys. I really wish I would've taken basketball seriously when I was younger, I wasted a lot of natural gifts.

    Beefs:
    - Guys who can't shoot for **** that constantly take bad shots
    - Guys who don't look for their teamates when handling the ball
    - Guys who don't play defense
    - Hackers
    - Guys who want to play zone, but don't rotate.
    - Big men who suck down low

    Things I love:
    - Defending the best player. Beating up on scrubs is fun, but the challenge of shutting down a legitimate baller is a great feeling.
    - Getting easy buckets for teamates.
    - Sonning **** talkers

I don't do a lot of yapping on the court unless it's communicating with a teamate. When the adrenaline is pumping I'm just in my own little zone and focused. Damn this thread is making me want to ball, it's been a minute. I'll have to hit the gym this weekend. At least I have 2K8 to hold me down a little bit lol.

Oh yea, ain't nothing better than shutting up the biggest trash talker on the court lol. Almost makes you feel like you held T.O in check lol.

That and having to comeback and win after being down most of the game because you know it took great teamwork to get that W.

When ya'll play full court, do ya'll go by 2's and 3's or anything behind the 3 pt line is a 2 and everything inside is 1?

Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?

Man there is this one old dude who is driving me up the wall at my gym lately.

One of my go to moves is a jab-step left, one dribble to the right and then a pull up jumper. I'm a rhythm shooter so if my J isn't falling early I go to this move since I always shoot it at a higher percentage (forces me to get my legs into the shot and get better arch on it).

So this one clown who is probably in his late 40's or early 50's called a travel on me last Saturday (who calls travels like that in a pick up game anyway?) and I let it go since we were killing his squad and the game was almost over. I know the move looks a bit awkward to some people and may look like a travel but it isn't - I made the move in pretty much every college and HS game I played in and was never called for a travel.

So last night we're down 10-9 going to 11 straight and I make this move and hit a 21-footer to win. After the shot goes in this same prick calls a travel and says the basket doesn't count. So I flip out on him, tell him he has no idea what he's doing, that it's not a travel, that he needs to stop trying to be Dick Bavetta, etc. He goes off on the usual BS that 'you gotta respect my call' but I walked off the court for a good five minutes - but finally went back and told the guy it was the last time I was ever gonna give him that call down here and told him never to call a walk on that move again. I don't know if he's not used to seeing a big man make a move like that or what but it's absurd, he never calls a travel on any other play.

So we check ball and the guy who made the call has the ball, he makes two dribbles and I call him for a carry lol (he actually did carry but I would never call that normally) and he just dropped the ball and respected my call. We check ball at the other end, I come off a screen and hit a 2 to win 11-10, then had some more choice words for him as they got the hell off the court.

Always 1's and 2's. I hate when I go to places that only play 1's, wtf kinda crap is that? Do they play flag football and only count a TD as three points too?

Those are the worst kind of games, I can't stand that either.

I also hate playing at courts where if you call next, that means you're the next captain in line, instead of the next player in line. So if you roll up and there's 4 dudes who called next, that doesn't mean you have next game if you call it too. You have to wait until someone picks you or you become captain... and guys that just lost are dropped into the free agent pool too.

Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?

              1. Play within yourself and your skillset. It usually happens with bigger guys and annoys me to no end. My one friend is 6'1", 270 (D2 football player), but insists staying outside, trying to drive, and shooting nothing but 3s. He never posts up...he could be nearly unstoppable down low, but he won't go down there no matter how many times we tell him to.

              2. Don't get pissed off if you're playing bad. This is what made me a bad player for 5 years. If you miss a shot, forget about it. Before, whenever I missed, I'd get mad, and that'd make me play even worse. Especially for shooters, the best memory is a short term memory.

How many of you have seen these types of Bball players on the court? They need to be banned from any and every Basketball court in the Country. Sad man.....just sad.

What bothers me most about Big Guys insisting on taking outside shots isn't that they won't make them, but that they leave no one to rebound underneath. If my tallest player and best rebounder is out near the arc, what good is that? Get inside and do your job.

Man this semester in school I have refined my game so much. I can probably hit 40% of my shots from down town, and I have gotten better at passing, getting rebounds and making more mid range shots.

Yea my mid range game is improving as well. 3 pt game still slums but occasionally i'll make 1 or 2 from 3 pt range.

If I had to compare my game to somebody, i'd say i'm a poor man's version of Udonis Haslem but a skinnier version of him LOL.

People use to tell me I was a poor man's Michael Redd. Also, most people that play with me try to get me open, because they say I can knock down any shot I take from anywhere withing 4 ft outside the 3pt line if I am open.
