This happens a lot with sports. And I don't mean something like someone saying that Teixeira is better than Pujols or that Kobe Bryant is better than Jordan. That's all an opinion and while you can argue it, it's not stupid to feel right about one or the other position. Now, when someone starts arguing with me that Player A was drafted by Team B and it's simply not true, that's when I feel like the OP.

Most of the time, I just drop the conversation and move on.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Well, I haven't personally met them, but some video games developers have no idea what they're doing.

You guys are right about Gamestop employees. Back when I bought NBA 2k8, they did the whole opening the plastic gimmick on me. Well, I mentioned it to them last week because I went in there to trade in a game for my nephew. The manager denied that they had done such a thing and basically called me a liar. Needless to say, they will not be getting any more of my money. I remember even posting it on here that it happened. Many other people had the same problem.

I have people argue with me all the time about stuff that I know for a fact, but the older I get, the more I just let it roll off my back. My uncle argued with me for 2 hours on Christmas about how to read the size of a tire. I finally got on the computer and showed him he was wrong.

Re: Do you know, or have you met anyone who thinks they know about videogames but doe

Actually, some of the most recent posts reminds me of my summer, doing statistics for my sister's traveling softball team. Well, my mom was the scorekeeper and I would sit in the score booth with her (normally my dad would videotape the game right outside of it). While she knows the basics of keeping score, she wants to know what's considered a hit or error sometimes, stolen base vs fielder's indifference, RBI's counted, etc. Well, my mom and dad have some unconscious belief that an error always occurs when it touches a fielder's glove, and I always try and bring up that it has to do with the "routineness" of the play (I know that's not a word, but that's the word that I used).

My sister got what I called an error and what they called a triple, and this led to a timeless argument after the game. We even pulled the footage from the game and saw the play over and over, and they still had their mind set on the glove-touching thing. I finally got on that damn computer and looked up the actual definition, and I found the replacement term I was looking for: ordinary effort. I wanted them to drop the notion that it has nothing to do with the ball touching their glove or not. I mean sure, normally that happens in the situation of a play with ordinary effort, but what if the ball goes through their legs? What if it hits their arm instead? I mean, there are many other ways to determine an error... and besides, that would only hold water for a fielding error, not a throwing error.

Nevertheless, they still stand by what they say (over MLB and ASA rules), and they still believe, to this day, that she deserves a triple. I just decided to end the argument and snuck it in there for them, hoping that the next time there's a debate over a call, that they just let me handle it. This was by no means a triple, and the right fielder should have caught the ball with ordinary effort.

But I love how they are so persistent in thinking that they know what an error is, especially when they're the ones asking me for help.

I remember you mentioning that over the summer, Blzer.

It's the constant argument with my summer team. Coach thinks an error only occurs when a fielder touches the ball and doesn't field it.

If a hot liner hits off the 3B's glove, it's an error. It drives me wild.

If an outfielder misplays a ball and lets a routine pop up fall behind him, it's a hit because it never touched his glove. I usually want to go insane.

Actually, I remember how this came up because I was complaining that my ERA was horrendous because errors were being counted as hits and turning into eventual Earned Runs.

All the time with sports. Mainly when people will say a reason on why the team lost when it's completely wrong. A lot of the time is when people say Romo choked away the giants game last year and people cannot understand the concept of the dallas oline getting their a$$es whipped by the best defensive line in football for the main reason they lost.

Ah yes, now I remember it all.

There are some times when a routine play becomes, well, not routine, by the certain things the fielder has around him as well. Say the sun is in their eyes. Effort is no longer ordinary, and normally does not result in an error. Say the ball hits the lip funny. Suddenly, that ball flies to the right, and the play is no longer routine.

But yeah, it's so annoying when people will even see the official definition and still think they're correct.

Parents come to mind, like when my dad went to a family friends house and they had a wii and he was trying to tell me about it, I am personally not a big fan of the wii because of the way it looks and plays (ps2 graphics, big head bowling baseball and such, does nothing for me) but he is trying to make me like it, I have a ps3 and a 360 I have been around games since Atari 2600, he has never played videogames outside of solitaire on the computer. Please dont tell me about the Wii I forgotten more about games then he will ever know..Love ya Dad tho..

Also a guy that I worked with tried to tell me that MLB the Show is on the 360. I am like no, its not. He freakin argued with me until I just said fine you're right. Unreal.

Oh and just to add to this. I was asking a guy at a video game exchange near me about turn based RPG's on the 360, and I mentioned Final Fantasy, and he said "the FF games aren't turn based". I just said ok, and walked away. lol
First off.....if you think you have a BenQ...you have a Samsung. If you think it's a Sammy...it's a BenQ. I'm friggin' POSITIVE about that.

Secondly.....WTF are you talking about. I play the Show on my 360 every day. It's hard to find...but it is SO on the 360. Christ!

and don't even get me started on Final Fantasia. Turn based?

I'd argue more with you but my shift at Gamestop starts in a half hour.
Why do you even post when you don't know what you're talking about?

That's exactly what I said. You know what I told him? That these are professional athletes, and if they can't even coordinate a play well enough so that they at least touch the ball with their glove, then the circumstance must not have met ordinary standards.

However, I'm talking about 14 year old girls here. There are many times in the outfield where the ball simply should be caught (a pro athlete could easily do it under his legs or behind his back), and their poor coordination leads to an error.

Someone mentioned The show on the 360 earlier. I worked with someone that claimed he had The Show on the 360 and it even looked better than the PS3 version. I simply told him that is impressive, and would like to come over to his house and play it. He got awfully quiet and never mentioned it again.
