The Global Warming Scare: Hey, let's use kids!! Yeah!

I'm sure this commercial is somewhat old, but it was rebroadcast just tonight on one of my channels.

Pandering by using victims, the more sympathetic the better. A tactic put forth by those without solid facts to back up their claim.

Don't worry 2-3 years from now there'll be a commercial for the Global Cooling phenomenon

Yeah, you guys know so much more than the world's most reputable scientists making educated statements based upon concrete data. Will someone please lock this nonsense.

Funny you should mention "the world's most reputable scientists" considering how half of them believe that global warming is a farce. Have you ever done any research on it? For every "fact" I've seen about global warming, I've been able to find just as many "facts" that argue the exact opposite. Why is there so much more news reporting it as being true? $$$

By the way, who are these scientists? If they're so reputable, surely, one could name them.

And why should this be locked? No one is getting personal?

You know there is another group of the world's most reputable scientists making educated statements based on concrete data that say that it is not caused by man and nothing we do will effect it. That group is growing while the other group is shrinking.

Well for one, the intergovernmental panel of non climate change an organization created by the world meterological organization fully backs the notion of global warming. You are welcome to present scholarly information indicating the increasing group of skeptics who believe it is not real, and the "shrinking" group of reputable scientists who think it is. It is actually the other way around my friend. And this should be locked because it is an obviously political topic.

No offense, but why should anyone take anyhting you guys say remotely seriously when these people in addition to the majority of harvard graduates in the field believe it exists. At this point, we can only go with the experts in this matter.

For every fact of Darwinism, I could find a disputing fact arguing for creationism, it does not mean that the disputing fact is equally relevant. At this point, the majority of reptuable scientists believe global warming is quite real-

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 2007

<DL><DD>Main article: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

</DD></DL>In February 2007, the IPCC released a summary of the forthcoming Fourth Assessment Report. According to this summary, the Fourth Assessment Report finds that human actions are "very likely" the cause of global warming, meaning a 90% or greater probability. Global warming in this case is indicated by an increase of 0.75 degrees in average global temperatures over the last 100 years.[2]
The New York Times reports on the report:

<DL><DD>The world's leading climate scientists said global warming has begun, is very likely caused by man, and will be unstoppable for centuries, ... . The phrase very likely translates to a more than 90 percent certainty that global warming is caused by man's burning of fossil fuels. That was the strongest conclusion to date, making it nearly impossible to say natural forces are to blame.[3] </DD></DL><DL><DD>The report said that an increase in hurricane and tropical cyclone strength since 1970 more likely than not can be attributed to man-made global warming. The scientists said global warming's connection varies with storms in different parts of the world, but that the storms that strike the Americas are global warming-influenced.[4] </DD></DL>The Associated Press summarizes the position on sea level rise:

<DL><DD>On sea levels, the report projects rises of 7-23 inches by the end of the century. That could be augmented by an additional 4-8 inches if recent surprising polar ice sheet melt continues.[5] </DD></DL>here is a link with many more findings. -

At this point, you go with the majority, and the majority of reputable scientists argue very much for this phenomenon.

First of all, never cite Wikipedia. That should be sufficient enough for that.

Second, you say to go with the majority. Why? Is the majority always right? Aristotle was called insane by everyone else when he said that the world was round.

                      Third, from a NASA report:

According to a team of scientists from NASA and the University of Alabama at Huntsville, global temperatures have been dropping, not rising, over the past two decades. They base their conclusion on satellite measuremnts of the temperature from the Earth's surface to about five miles up.
Check out this article if you're interested in researching this, but if you don't like to make up your own mind, I suggest avoiding it.

                      Link

Here's some more info for you though:

From a professor at Princeton: "Climate change is a real problem, partly caused by human activities, but its importance has been grossly exaggerated.

"It is far less important than other social problems such as poverty, infectious diseases, deforestation, extinction of species on land and in the sea, not to mention war, nuclear weapons and biological weapons.

"We do not know whether the observed climate changes are on balance good or bad for the health of the biosphere. And the effects of atmospheric carbon dioxide as a fertilizer of plant growth are at least as important as its effects on climate."

From the National Snow and Ice Data Center, University of Colorado: The Antarctic continues to embarrass the prognosticators as it exhibits very strong sea ice growth. In fact the ice is growing by significant amounts (a total of 17% since 1979) and in direct defiance of the orders issued by the computer models.

“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical. “The main basis of the claim that man’s release of greenhouse gases is the cause of the warming is based almost entirely upon climate models. We all know the frailty of models concerning the air-surface system” - Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology, and formerly of NASA, who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”

Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist

“The IPCC has actually become a closed circuit; it doesn’t listen to others. It doesn’t have open minds… I am really amazed that the Nobel Peace Prize has been given on scientifically incorrect conclusions by people who are not geologists,” - Indian geologist Dr. Arun D. Ahluwalia at Punjab University and a board member of the UN-supported International Year of the Planet

If you would like, I could post a link to a Congressional Report in which over 600 Scientists argue against global warming.

The majority of scientists have concluded that global warning is a legitimite threat, a much larger and more reputable number than the token few you have listed (from out of the blue it seems). Please feel free to explain to me what sections in the link I posted are fabricated or made up? A recent research test shows wikipedia is about as accurate as an encyclopedia Brittanica.-

You wouldn't have a problem with me retrieving information from encyclopedia britannica, now would you? Of course it is most logical to go with the majority of what leading researchers and scientists are saying (who are basing their conclusions based upon strenous and costly research incorporating teams of people, the most well researched global warming cases in existence). Your aristotle argument is ridiculous as is posting the thoughts of people in the minority on the subject. I will trust the world meterological association over the snow and ice data center of Colorado, lol. Btw, that link you posted (which I am hoping you did not get your facts and quotes from) is not reputable at all. I highly doubt most civilized countries in existence including the presidential administrations of the United States (both Bush and Obama) would declare global warming a real and serious threat on a whim. But hey, you must know something they do not , huh Aristotle?

Hmmm...what a coincidence. On the larger known history time scale, that's sort of like saying, "TICK".

The quote was one of the first two in a reputable link which substantiates the notion of a plethora of major organizations backing global warming. Are you a scientist, do you understand how things work? Kindly explain to me how something like this is no big deal. I will leave the brain surgery to the doctors and not the 9-5 everyday middlemen, and I will leave the technical information to the scientists, and not daflyboys. The truth of the matter is that the majority of scientists have deemed the threat of global warming as real (to the point where essentially any reputable country in existence that relies on information from their top scientists is backing it), and you cannot debate that. End of argument.

Did I ever say that I, personally, believe it wasn't an issue? I'm pretty sure I didn't. My personal belief is that there is not enough information out there on either side of the argument to jump to any sort of conclusion. Like my wife says on the issue, it's better to err on the side of caution.

My whole point I was trying to make was to research things on your own, and keep an open mind while doing so. Don't just believe everything that someone tells you. I've found that an open mind leads to all kinds of great things, while close minds lead to wars (not a popular opinion for someone in the military).

All the quotes that I used were from the Congressional report that I mentioned. Interested in seeing it? Here it is!

                              Link

By the way, a funny thing about the UN IPCC Summary that you keep mentioning... Only 52 scientists participated in that survey. Not the hundreds or thousands that you mention. If that's true (like it says in the report), than the 650 scientists that I just posted a link to make up more than 12 times that amount. Who is the majority, again?
