we didnt have cellphones until that first year in high school. even then, maybe only 10% of the population had one. It's causing all sorts of social issues imo for this generation

now it's 4 years ahead of what my age had and they ALL have phones... I dont understand the need for a phone at that age.. im sorry but thats sad.

You wouldn't believe how many of my students receive calls and text messages from their parents while in class. We had a kid recently you received a bill for close to $3,000 much like this girl.

I dont mind texts, emails and all that, but not when an entire conversation takes place. Its great for "Hey, party at 8" or "be there in 5" but when its "Whats up, hows your day, did you hear about this or that" it gets ridiculous.

Yea I don't get why people spend a half hour or more just texting back and forth with the same person. I'd just call.

I got a cell phone my junior year of High School because my mom wanted me to have one in case I needed to reach her. Before that, my sister was at the same school and she had a cell phone so I'd just use hers if I needed to talk to my mom, but when she went off to college my mom wanted me to have one.

Honestly, at this point, I'm amazed that people can actually live without cell phones. Anytime I leave my apartment/house, there are three things I make sure I have: wallet, keys and cell phone. I forget anyone of those and I'm probably screwed.

I don't mind texting per se, but I hate when people do it all the time to the point of it's just plain rude. For example, sitting at a dinner table eating and said person is looking down at their phone texting the entire time.

I hate using text messaging. Its generally a waste of time. If you try to have a conversation with me thru text, I will remove you from my contacts list.

I like texting for the reasons TheMatrix posted. If I don't have something specific to talk to you about I will text you. I don't mind if it goes on for a while because I can respond at my leisure with a text.

Ugh, I hate people who have conversations over texting. Especially when it's interrupting something we're doing. If I'm texting, I have a point to it.

Nothing is worse then that..I have a friend in the dorms that is constantly talking to this annoying girl when we are trying to play Madden...

As long as I have had a cellphone I think my total text messages, both incoming and outgoing would not even total 50. I find text message to be annoying as hell.

One of my buddies does that when we play Madden or NCAA also. Game takes twice as long because he is always pausing it to text back.

Text messages are better than phone conversations because I loathe talking to people on the phone. With a phone conversation, that's ALL you can do. You're basically tied into it. You can't watch TV, you can't take a ****, you can't do homework, you cant listen to music, etc.

Texting allows me to avoid talking to people I don't particularly want to talk to for a long time anyway. It's not as intrusive either, if you know someone can't pick up their phone wherever they may be at the moment.

I can do all of those things while talking on the phone.
