There is always the occupational hazard of getting shot you might want to consider. Just to cover all pros and cons. If you do it, more power to you bro. Good luck.

The only tips I have are go into the academy in good shape and stay under the radar.
It's a lot easier if you don't have to worry about the physical fitness aspect so you can focus on the mental aspect. Staying on top of the mental aspect will keep you under the radar. One of the sweetest parts of my 6 month academy was Week 10 or so when the Sergeant looked at me and wanted to know if I was new.
It's the best job in the world as far as I'm concerned. I work 4 days a week, made great money last year, and have a pension when I retire. The academy is tough but it's worth it when you hit the streets. Best of luck...
I tried becoming a cop but since I smoked a lil bit of weed like 8 months ago I could not get hired. Who cares if i did 5 years in the army as a infantrymen and 2 years of that were in the freaken desert. I swear to god that what really makes me angry, they would rather hire some goody two shoes with no real world experience than a person who has spent more time in one day working with weapons than some of these kids ever had in their life. The End Result is a negligent discharge is some dudes back while he is handcuffed.
Never mind actual police work that is done In Iraq, But who cares, right. My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment
