And I didn't lie, I bought a six pack of the cans and literally couldn't get through one of them. BUT I went to a bar and tasted it on tap and it's like night and day. The horrible after taste was gone making it taste EXACTLY like root beer.

I had to give it a try bc they were offering a rootbeer float on the menu and I couldn't imagine that going well with the crap I tasted before, but could definitely see it with the beer I had on tap.

Ugh cans....draft is great and bottles are pretty close.

I always like to support local breweries, and last night I got a sixer of DuClaw's Mad Bishop. Probably my favorite Oktoberfest I've had this year. Definitely has a bready smell and taste. Little bit of caramel sweetness too. Really good.

Just went to an Oktoberfest fest downtown in Baltimore. DuClaw was there and I tried it. Definitely some good beer. Also had that rootbeer. They had from a tap. I didn't mind it. Definitely tasted like a&w. I didn't taste any alcohol. Would definitely taste good as a float

I've been trying Flying Dog's single hop series all summer, and the fourth and final installment was just released. I picked some up on the way home from work.

HBC-431, Warrior, Columbus, and now Apollo.

As you can imagine, bitterness is the name of the game here, with a prominent citrus grapefruit taste. That's a pretty strong common thread between the four. They're all pretty boozy, but even though it's been a while, I don't recall quite the alcohol taste that Apollo has in the rest.

Anyway, probably not for everyone, but I've really enjoyed them all.

Also picked up DuClaw's Dirty Little Freak, which they characterize as a coconut caramel chocolate brown ale. Haven't tried that one yet though.

Hey Bmore. Let me know how dirty little freak is. My favorite beers are porters, red ales, and brown ales. One of my favorites korvorka which is made Jailbreak. It is a black cherry Porter. Love the stuff.

I was literally just about to come in here to post about it. Very sweet smelling of chocolate and vanilla. The taste reminded me of toffee, and you can certainly taste the coconut as well. Roasted malts are apparent.

Personally, I love it. But for anyone who doesn't enjoy sweet beers, it wouldn't be for them. Definitely has that dessert taste to it.

Just wanted to add something. I went to get a 6 pack of this as my wife was pregnant when I discovered it and had to miss out. She had heard me talking about enjoying it for a nice little 'dessert' beer. She wanted to have one, so i go to total wine on 198 and see cans, cans, cans remembering this conversation I ask them for bottles. I was told they don't carry them and the company is pushing cans...Was disapointed but bought those and Coney Island "Hard Root Beer" bottles. (http://coneyislandbeer.com/hard-root-beer/). The Coney Island stuff tasted more of birch than the NYFRB. Not sure either were really good, but the lack of bottles was disappointing.

Which is fine or even better for most beers I've tasted. It really doesn't work for the root beer though apparently.

Was gong to say the same thing as Mabster. I've had a lot of really good canned beers... especially IPAs.

If you ever get a chance to try NYFRB from a tap or bottle, I'd be curious to know what you think. I may try the Coney Island one if I see it, but personally I'm not rushing for a good root beer (or apple, or lemon, or whatever). I usually just like beer that tastes like beer and liquor with little or no mixer. If I want a soda I just drink a soda.

I'm the same way. My liquor is straight up unless it's a Manhattan or old fashion. The Coney Island was good less sweet with a pronounced birch flavor.

I know 21st amendment brewery is all cans and I like their IPAs.
