You aren't getting it. The police deemed this idiot worthy of getting a restraining order. There is more to this story. The newspaper has sucked you in with their headline of "Man jailed for Whistling." And you bought it hook line and sinker. The old people felt threatened. Why are you defending a nutjob that couldn't respect someone's personal space. Even when given a restraining order he just couldn't control himself.

Think about it.

Some geniuses can't be reasoned with. It's only when people are placed into similar situations that they will realize the severity of the situation. In all honesty, I think it wasn't a waste of the tax payers money for them to report it for the restraining order. I mean, for some strange reason, the intellects who are defending the guy don't seem to fathom the 4 YEARS of doing it. They just think of it happening twice or something. Seriously, there is a thin line between freedom and harassment in this case. The guy lost that freedom 1450 days before he was put in jail for the whistling. There isn't a soul on this earth worth getting bullied like that. It's inhumane to be a bully because all you're doing is degrading your value by trying to degrade someone else's.

Pretty soon you wont be able to crack a joke without being slapped with a lawsuit and forced to deal with your country's legal system.
It just seems like it should have never got to the point where the police were called.

How many times must this be emphasized? It wasn't a one time thing. The man kept doing it, even after a court told him not to.

Also, this whole "pretty soon we won't be able to do anything without being hit with a lawsuit" thing is ridiculously overplayed.

This is an argument that a mommy should entertain...not a court of law (like I mentioned earlier...both parties need to GROW UP)

I will agree with you on this part. But then again, we don't know the whole story.

let me preface this with the statement:i understand how long he was annoying the old couple...I also understand why he went to jail...I can read. But was he or was he not Jailed for whistling? And the police deeming him worthy of a restraining order means absolutely nothing to me. Who becomes police officers? Generally, it is uneducated people and the people who got picked on when they were young. They ruin people's lives for a living. I have no respect for police officers so that argument will not work with me.

The couple is pathetic. How can you defend a couple of old people that cant manage their own emotions? All three of these people are obviously miserable souls...
but you mean to tell me an elderly couple, two people working together to get through life, that have made it into old age already, cant overcome something as trivial as this? that is plain weaksauce...oh you have a mean neighbor? cry me a river. What will happen when one of them dies? How the hell could they deal with something like that? come off it...
I know plenty of people who dealt with 10x worse treatment for 10x longer and guess what..they got over it. I am not defending the a-hole..I am just attacking people who are quick to call authorities. If I answered that call I wouldve laughed my *** off and said "ignore him". this would have never been an issue if the old people didnt go crying to the police.


Do you know what would happen if everyone on earth that had an annoying neighbor pressed charges on them? Society would break down. What if that annoying neighbor was a Doctor and someone died because he got sent to Jail that day...would it be worth it then? Huh old people? Terrorists.

This was easily rectified. The couple should have hired someone about 6'10", dressed him up like Lurch, rang the guy's doorbell, have him say "I rannnnng" and proceed to scare the **** out of him.

That could be the most ridiculous statement I've ever read on OS. They ruin people's lives for a living? I bet the people they help EVERYDAY don't think they ruin their lives.

I GUARANTEE if someone was continually harassing you for 4 years that you would be begging for the police to help you. I see it every freaking day. People who have your attitude towards the police come in crying a river and want the Police to help them.

Here's the deal. People are quick to say that criminals deserve to have their rights and that the police shouldn't be putting them in jail and all that (which I agree everyone has constitutional rights that should be protected), BUT the same people that are mad that you put someone in jail are the first people to jump up and down and want a person locked up forever if they commit a crime against them. If someone breaks into your neighbor's house, then that person should get a fair trial and are innocent until proven guilty, but if they break into your house then they should be locked up and not let out and if that doesn't happen then you blame the system and nobody does their job and you have no respect for them. I have a lot of experience in this area and I bet that's the attitude you have.

You sir, have a lot to learn.

the secret police should be coming to the houses of everyone who ever made fun of someone for an extended period of time then. You should all be jailed too because I cant deal with how mean you people are. You are all ruining my life. instead of me not coming on to OS ever again, you should all just be arrested and prosecuted using tax $ because you've made the 15minutes I spend on OS everyday un-enjoyable. First of all the OS forums have an ignore button so you don't have to communicate with those you don't want contact with. Had these old people had a real life ignore button to solve the problem, they would have used it. A restyraining order was the next best option.

You really need to get a clue. Hopefully you encounter a person that intimidates and harrasses your family for years on end. When you are old and just want to go down the street for a cup of coffee, I hope there is a crazy looking neigbor that follows you and makes you feel uncomfortable because you don't know what he's planning to do.

I would imagine that you are they type of person who would get arrested for drunk driving and thinks the cop arrested you because you didn't use your turn signal.

I just don't get how you fail to understand that these old people were harrassed, the nutjob was told to stop or he'd be arrested, and he couldn't control himself and did it anyway. Think he may have some mental issues? As far as it wasting tax payers $, sure it did, but the old people paid taxes all their life so they could live free of harrassment. Fine the nutjob to the extent of the cost, problem solved.

I'm out on this discussion because if you haven't gotten it by now, you never will.
