    Jury Duty

Yeah! I just got my check for jury duty service today! 16 bucks for a 1/2 day of service...

It was my first time... I was in the first group that got called down to the courtroom but I luckily I didn't get seated in the jury box for questioning. Even if I ended up being questioned, I think I would have been excused for cause because the lawsuit had to do with an golf/athletic club in which I frequent.

You guys have any interesting experiences while serving? Tips to get out of the selection process? What should I spend my 16 bucks on?

    Re: Jury Duty

I got selected and served on a Federal Drug case when I was in college during the summer. It lasted for a week, I got paid I think $40 per day. I was only working part time during the summer and taking 2 classes. I think it got me out of a test or quiz, so I didn't really care. I was selected the foreman and it was a good experience to see the whole process.

I've been summoned twice but both times the juries weren't even called in. I highly doubt anyone would seat me on a jury though.

I have been selected for jury duty once and then I did get picked to be on the jury for a local case. It took 4 days. Now I can't serve any more due to my disability.

I was summoned once but my group was never selected....the worst part was this woman who was seated behind me. She seemed to be irritating everyone there by talkin and being disruptive.

I brought a book to read and ended up finishing it with plenty of time left in the day so I borrowed a magazine from someone. Right before we were released for lunch this woman came up to me and told me how irresponsible I was for borrowing someone else's reading material and that I should've brought my own stuff...needless to say I brushed it off and ignored her.

When I returned from lunch I ended up coming back about five minutes late and this woman proceeded to berate me for "not taking my civil duty seriously."

Meanwhile half of the room had not returned from lunch yet and I told her, politely, to relax. Considering many other people were not back from lunch yet it was extremely annoying that she was focusing solely on me.

She then started asking me what number group I was in because I should be serving on a jury to teach me a lesson. I told her I was in group #1 and she was boasting that she was in group #5 and that I would be getting called to serve before her, which was ironic considering how gung-ho she was about me serving.

Once again, I brushed it off...for the remainder of the day no groups were called until the last moment a bailiff walked in and to my surprise called group #5...I turned around and smiled as they excused the rest of the groups and told her to enjoy fufilling her civil duty...I will never forget the look on her face.
