Yes, this this a thousand times this. I'd rather have the money go to near billionaire owners than the players.

The number of players in the league and on each roster, and the fact that individual nba players are more important to their team than individual nfl players.

Yep, 15 man roster vs. 75 man roster. Because of that, there are also a far higher percentage of NBA players who could be considered stars, making the average salary much higher. Think about all the mid-level guys like Kevin Martin, Baron Davis, Boozer, etc. who are considered the star(s) of their team and yet you can name 4 or 5 other players who are better than them at their position... there's a serious amount of talent in the NBA.

There is a serious amount of bad contracts from "perceived/anticipated talent" as well, and 95% of them are totally guaranteed, whereas NFL contracts are rarely guaranteed... that will cause the average payroll to be higher overall as well.

Okay? If you could only work your job for 5 to 10 years with serious health and physical risk I bet you wouldn't feel so certain about that.

I don't think an owner should make anything. They are the ones who price out the real fans, build useless stadiums for their friends (high income) and then move with resistance.

Better question is...why do people get paid millions of dollars to play a friggin' game?

Sports salaries, whether it's the NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, are beyond ridiculous and TBH, pathetic.

The entire Manny debacle and the economy and such has just really turned me off to the way professional sports and salaries, etc. are dealt with. Just needed to let it out lol.

Because millions of people are willing to pay them to watch a friggin' game.

If you want to see sports salaries cut, start by never watching the telecasts, never attending the game, not visiting any sports websites, and not even talking about sports since the discussion may encourage someone else to contribute a little bit of money.

Because people are outbidding each other to get better talent on their team. That is what have driven up salaries. A raising salary cap every few years so a player will be offered 10 million and then be offered 12 million by another team.

The manny thing pissed me off too just because it was 100% greed

If you want to watch people play the game, just watch college or HS sports. I watch probably 10 times more college/HS then I do NFL

I would gladly play 16 NFL games at every position but running back and linebacker over 82 games as a basketball player. No doubt in my mind which is more physicially taxing.

                              1. The lines are far, far more physically draining than backs or linebackers.

                              2. You're just wrong. Look at the retirement ages of the players. Football players generally break down in fewer games than an NBA season lasts. I don't see how anyone who's ever played football could think basketball has a higher physical toll than football.

In everyone else's world, owners are needed. Unless you want Olympic style state-sponsored teams, you need owners.

There is a reason basketball players can play 82 games a season and still be at full strength come the finals if they make it. On top of that the great ones play a lot of games during the summer.

I like owners as long as they are willing to spend money to win like Cuban and Jerry. Tom Hicks would rather add on to his stadium then sign good players.
