Re: RSS Email Really: What Purpose Do Dancers/Cheerleaders Serve In Professional
Someone during a Cleveland Cavs game told me the only reason they have those dancers are for women. Wives, girlfriends and daughters like to talk about them as the men watch the game.
Anyway I don't need none of that stuff. I would get rid of those cheerleaders/dancers, jumbotron, blasting music(this drives me crazy) and worst of all the stupid PA announcer/scoreboard signs that tell you when to cheer......
Like DC said you can see half naked women everywhere else in this world I really don't need it during a sporting event.Comment

Re: RSS Email Really: What Purpose Do Dancers/Cheerleaders Serve In Professional
My friend got me some good seats right by the basket one game, Magic vs. Kings, where all the cheerleaders sit while the game is going on.
They'll do little routines during timeouts and dead balls on the side, mostly dancing in place, and the night I went they each had an 8-12 year old girl with them, mimicking their moves. About halfway through the second quarter, after some little girl started trying to booty shake and do the stripper-style moves that her dancer was doing, I turned to the dancer who was right next to me, and I said "Do you really need to be teaching these little girls how to dance like that?"
She gave me this look like I deeply insulted her, turned away and kept on dancing, angrily.
I'm for cheerleading and dancers, it's part of sports and shouldn't be taken away, but it's getting more and more sexual as the years go on. I don't really mind it, but when it starts affecting the kids and setting up this role of a female as only a sexual object, it starts to bother me. Maybe it's more of the dancers than the cheerleaders, because the NBA primarily has dancers now.Comment

As far as I know, aren't cheerleaders used for an increase in attendance/tickets?Comment

I don't mind the cheerleaders too much at my school. The dance team on the other hand.... ugh. They are decent looking enough, but thir song choices are awful and usually just consist of taking a regular song, speeding it up, and adding a repetitive thumpin' beat to make it "dance music." Last game was the worst, as they managed to molest about six or seven classic rock songs in only about a minute.Green Bay Packers | Milwaukee Brewers | Bradley Braves | Wisconsin Badgers

I gotta agree there. When I'm at the game, I'm briefly "off" on basketball during the timeouts. There is no ball happening, so why not look at some booty while I wait. But I can't get aroused while watching basketball. It's kinda like that old "think about baseball" joke.Comment
