    Alaska's Mount Redoubt Erupts

I'm surprised how little news coverage this thing is getting. It's wreaking a lot of havoc up in Alaska and if the winds shift around a bit, Anchorage could be in the plume of ash that is currently raining down on points west of them where the NWS has Ash Advisories posted. And if this thing keeps on going off (It's been going off on and off for about 12 hours or so), it has the potential to cool the Earth's climate a few degrees for the next few years.

Short of the Ruskies invading, I don't think anyone cares what happens in Alaska.

No, because it would be temporary. And, if carbon dioxide is actually the culprit causing global warming, then this has the potential to put more carbon dioxide in the air than man ever has in the Earth's history, so greenies, go cap the volcano!

The same thing happened with Mount Pinatubo in 1991 and it resulted in a cooling of a few degrees over the next couple of years. A more extreme example would be Krakatoa, which was a massive eruption and actually led to New York City getting a blizzard in the middle of summer since it was so cold.

I remember when Mt Spurr erupted, Anchorage was completely covered in dark grey ash. I would say 2-3 inches. It was so disgusting. Dark dust would come out of your vents, picking out black boogers for weeks. Talk about a gloomy site, hours of raining dark ash.

My dad says there's really nothing happening yet in Anchorage, no major earthquakes no ash like Mt Spurr. Anchorage benefited after with all the fertilization the ash brought to the land. Hence the birth of the legendary ATF.

Another eruption just occurred. This one blasted ash 65,000 feet into the atmosphere. Take a look and notice how the temperature rose 30 degrees (It later rose to 65, but I don't have the GIF for that) from this webcam stationed 7.5 miles from the volcano. Pretty amazing.

It's too bad there's not much coverage. This is a very interesting event.

Check out this picture of one of the eruptions from space! The black puff sticking out is the ash cloud from the eruption.

That's the ash cloud from the volcano. I'm not sure which eruption it is, but it's pretty cool to see from space.
