I've known plenty of bigger girls that exercised and one actually ran 5k's and a half marathon. Don't know if it was genetics or she just liked food too much, but most would probably say she was out of shape and didn't take care of her body if they saw her, but that is because people always judge a book by it's cover, especially in online dating. You can't get around it. When a profile is based on a person's own account of themselves, you tend to trust the pictures (well, at least if they are the real deal haha) more than the words in some cases.

Typically a profile will mention the gym or some kind of exercising if they do it. Even on match there's a "how many times do you work out" section on the top of the profile.

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
Yeah, it's not an exact science that big girls don't work out, but there does seem to be a strong likelihood that they do not.
I have previously given those a chance that state they are a work in progress and have made the gym/working out a hobby.
I've seen plenty of guys that pass over girls for being too thin and assuming they couldn't date someone that won't eat a plate of food at dinner. Yet, I'm sure we all know at least one person that somehow swallows food and craps it out without any effect on their body.
For ODogg, I can understand the sensitivity of the topic. Not to make it seem that you feel personally attacked or anything, but you've routinely mentioned you are a bigger than thin man (not sure how much you weigh now and don't want to assume you're overweight) and like women that have a similar body type to yours.
I don't think anyone is necessarily saying they find bigger women disgusting (well, maybe they do if we are talking about sexually, but that's another topic), but that they want someone that fits their body type and activity level. I think both go hand-in-hand.
Never could I imagine myself dating a woman that worked out like a beast and had muscles twice the size of mine. So, sure she works out, but the body type part does not match mine."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I do think you should give people a shot though! I just found that no matter how cool someone was, if I wasn't physically attracted to them it just didn't work out. Since I did online dating for a while I learned I had to be somewhat cutthroat because if I wasn't I'd be wasting time/money on dates that wouldn't go anywhere.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
What's the protocol on tying to score a date with a female through fb, Would never do so in the past but this female I'm trying to take out isn't someone I'd random run into at the gym (she goes to a different gym), or random local bars because (#1 she works 2 jobs, has a kid) and when I do go it's not local bars..Comment

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
I think perhaps my postings were a bit misunderstood. First of all, yes I'm overweight, by about 50 pounds, and I do prefer slightly heavier women, but it wasn't so much about anyone here insulting my girlfriend (or me), although I suppose that's a small part of it.
The larger part of why I posted as I did was that I just don't want you younger guys to exclude people for superficial reasons. Obviously you have to go by what attracts you but my main concern was that some of you may bypass some women who are not perfect barbie dolls because of what your friends or family may think of you for dating one.
The bottom line is date who you want, not who society wants you to date or what society dictates is "beautiful" in regards to weight. Don't just get into that whole "I ain't dating a fat chick" mentality. If you find someone interesting and like them and are sexually attracted then to hell with what society thinks.
Don't exclude people based on what others think, you're really excluding a whole huge group of people. Think for yourself.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

I'm one of those guys that excluded a huge group of people - not because of society though. I could just never be attracted to someone who isn't thinner, like myself. Is it wrong of me? Possibly but one can't really help attraction.
Quite a bit of it is based on ones own bodyweight as well, I think.badComment

ODogg, I can see your point and agree with the general message.
I just dont think there are too many of us that are going by society/media deems attractive. Nor do I think we worry too much about what family or friends will think.
We just simply are not attracted to women who are overweight. That is perfectly natural.
I agree with Noob. A lot of it has to do with our own body type as well. We generally tend to end up with people about as attractive as ourselves. I'm a personal trainer. So Im going to be even less attracted to someone overweight compared to the average guy. That's simply not what I find myself attracted to. And it goes the other way as well. If you're not caking, a banging fitness model is not going to be with an overweight dude.
Its just how things are.Comment

I will say lifestyle can make a difference though, as I could see why thinner guys may not want chubbier women if they won't share the same lifestyle habits, but lifestyle and looks aren't always the same (I mean I know plenty of larger folks like myself who work out regularly and I know plenty of thin people who are couch potatoes)..
As is said, go with what attracts you but don't make the mistake so many guys make and exclude a group of people lightly, and for perhaps the wrong reasons.Last edited by ODogg; 03-24-2013, 12:29 PM.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
I like a girl to have a healthy amount of weight on her. Healthy to me is she looks like she takes care of her body, eats fairly right; and if she's doing that she shouldn't have an excess amount of body weight. That doesn't mean she has to be rail skinny, that is actually fairly unattractive in my mind when a girl is frail, and bony. (Nicole Ritchie in her earlier days come to mind)
My perfect body type is a Kate Upton type girl. You know I always find people saying Kate, is too chubby, or she's carrying some excess weight on her. (mostly females that are probably just jealous of her) But I want to smack them? Like seriously, she has the right amount of weight on her, she looks like she's in good shape, not overly muscular but it also looks like she eats like a normal person.
Spoiler
Also Smoking, Drug usage, and Excessive Drinking are dealbreakers for me.Last edited by Feared; 03-24-2013, 04:58 PM.Minnesota Vikings
