Well seeing that it was the First Lady dishing up the food i'd say there was probably a good mixture of "regular" people and homeless people at the shelter that day. I gotta commend her for her efforts on trying to get people to do healthy eating and such. We've seen over the years under different administrations efforts to get exercise and such into school curricula and to stress it as a healthy habit for everyone.

I don't think it's anachronistic for a homeless person to have a phone, given that this is often the only way they can keep in contact with anyone. Most would be the pre-paid variety, but a phone of some sort is pretty much a necessity for getting social services, looking for jobs, etc. -- it's hard enough to get on programs without a physical or mailing address, but if they can't even contact you to have you come into the office, it makes it basically impossible to help that population.

And yeah, props to the First Lady for her efforts in this area so far.

I don't see why it's infeasible for a homeless person to have a blackberry. If you consider how much money they make by begging then they probably could get one. Or maybe they're homeless because they just don't know how to spend their money wisely so they opt for smaller, expensive things rather than making smart decisions. Or maybe they sell drugs and they just decided that a phone was at the top of the priority list. Or maybe they stole it. Idk, plenty of possibilities.

He should upgrade to Iphone. I'm sure he could find some useful GPS application listing the best garbage cans and liquor sites found throughout the greater metropolitan area.

The concept of these guys owning technological devices is so funny. I wonder what his facebook update looks like-

Most "Homeless" people and "War" veterans without homes are not legit to begin with. I have seen some that have scruffy clothes and bad Higene get done begging and hop into a nice car with a rolex on. Its a joke that is getting out of hand. Its pretty bad when you see someone and want to help them out just to see them get up and leave in nice vehicles.

There was an fml post not too long ago about a person who donated money to a homeless person only to have him pull out his blackberry.

Local news station did a special on this and showed a lot of panhandlers who here "homeless" leaving their panhandling spot in a nice car.

I don't know about Blackberry's but a lot of homeless people have cell phone's and I don't see any problem with it. Just like stumbleweed said, it's a good way for them to keep up with programs. I have seen people I thought were homeless in the Apple store checking their e-mail. I just figured they were looking for jobs or some kind of shelter.
