Good point, particularly if you want to teach in a "warm state", as the need for bilingual teachers (and many other professions) is greater in the south. Although it's certainly not limited to the south...

There is more to teaching than that! Trust me. But you should put Teachers' out there.

Stay out of NV. That's my best advice as a teacher. You'll be much happier elsewhere. The SW is spotty for finding open positions. CA, NV and AZ are all facing budget issues. I'm not sure about the SE - it's warm there too.

That is the thing about Cali, yeah they are laying off teacher, but they have to have some new ones to take those spots. A lot of time they do that to get rid of bad teachers or ones that Principals don't like or ones that are close to tenure. And yes I know I have 2 "or" in one sentence.

^^spelling and punctuation on the internet are overrated.

Out here there are plenty of bad teachers. However, because Clark County is so inept overall the bad teachers are the ones staying and the good ones are leaving. It's a pretty pathetic district to be honest. Grew too fast and lost focus on it's priorities - students in the classroom. I strongly recommend new teachers stay far away from here. CCSD is not even hiring it's own (UNLV, CSN, SNC) alternate route teachers at this point. They were all promised way too much stuff when they signed on and now they can't even get hired after going through the district's own program.

They're even eliminating permanent sub positions - they'd rather rotate in a new sub every week in a classroom then pay for an everyday non-contract teacher. If I was a parent w/ a kid in revolving door subs classroom I'd be pissed off. A different unqualified teacher every few weeks is unreal. Sad thing is there are really limited private school options if you care about your kid's education.

There are good schools in Vegas, problem is you really have to research it as a teacher and find them - they're like needles in a haystack. When you find one you better not leave lol.

Yeah they tried to do that here, but the union gets on it right away.

So what are the websites you guys use to find jobs?

In Ontario, everything is divided by school boards and you have to search each school board on its own. I cant search for a job in Toronto, for example, unless I go to their schoolboard. Is that how it works in the states?

Can you leave the Region and the schoolboard I can search; any schoolboards will be fine. A website would be great too

Its the same here, each school district has its own site. They should all have an employment section.

Here are the websites of a few North Texas school districts.

Denton ISD: Empowering lifelong learners to be engaged citizens who positively impact their local and global community.

                      Thanks man, greatly appreciated.

Are you a teacher? Any idea how the teaching front is in North Texas and how much teachers generally make there?

You have to realize that teachers make not that much because it is consider a part time job. Sure you take work home with you. But you only work 8 to 3pm and you only work 10 months a years. Unless you are like me and work 12 months a year. Which is great! More money and still I only I am contracted to work 180 days a year. I love my job!

http://www.cccoe.k12.ca.us/ You can't go wrong with the county. We rarely have layoffs.

If I was you I would look into all the county teaching jobs in the states you would like to live. The county is better then your normal School District.

lol, i Have never heard teaching being considered a part time job. In Canada, sure, you're only AT school from 7-5 but most nights you have lesson planning, markings, activities to create, etc. Teaching is the most underrated job in the world. People say you get 2 months off, but you NEED it after all the BS you're put through. Even still, you should always be taking more classes to improve and help your students.

I just dont want to teach in Canada because it gets sooooo cold and with my immune system, well, I cant.

Yeah it is. That is just how it is. Now granted you do a lot of work at home, but you only get payed for 6.5 hours a day, so yes that is consider not full time. It is the best keep secret though. Teachers want more money, but if they work as much as an office job they would make the same. Oh I made a mistake I said part time I meant to say not full time, so yes you are right!

You can't beat my teaching job. No parents, kids get out of hand, send them back to their room. No take home work. You can't, because you can't take the kids papers home. So we have a lot of prep time in the day to get the work corrected. And we make more money then other teachers, becasue we work the summer. I am still contracted to work a 180 day contract, so I make may Pay Diem in the summer Which is at $275 a day. And still have about 40 days off a year. Yep I love my job! Right now I have my schedule set up like this. Work 4 weeks off 1 week, work 3 weeks off 1 week. Work 4 weeks off 2 weeks. And so on for the year!
